S4 is more single lot oriented. Everything focuses on your sim at home. Trick or Treaters come to you, you don't go out, eggs are hidden on your lot to find, the bunny comes to your lot, Father Winter brings gifts to your house, etc.
There is no real community stuff happening other than the invites to raves or the bar for a special night out.
You put it that way and it really pinpoints how unsuccessful the "life" simulation is.
I don't think that I can recall any game in the series where the un-played Sims are so...disconnected. Unless it's food, they show so little interest in the world and activities around them.
I wish that TS4 could feel more more alive. :/
I agree with your comment. That is why I felt that the festivals from City Living were so successful in bringing the community together or at least making it seem like there is a community. Of course, it was because there was food, but they also watch someone playing an instrument, play basketball, try out the bubble blower, etc. Get Together obviously made it easier to have gatherings, outings, and clubs also.
Maybe festivals would be too much of a repetitive concept but I would like to see more group activities and new venue types for group activities to add some more excitement to the sims, like the county fair or a concert venue. Maybe we could get new content, like a haunted house, booths, face painting, etc. so we could decorate the venue so that it seems like a seasonal festival is going on.
