Cheating Should Be More Nuanced

I miss when Sims were able to “confess to cheating”.

I would like to see this return in a new romance themed pack.

A marriage counselor NPC could be introduced lol

Maybe the sim who was cheated on can react in two ways 1) Running off in tears for a few hours or 2) Slapping the cheating sim in the face and then proceeding to wreck some items in the house.

Maybe the cheating sim would actually have to put in real effort to win the beloved sim back, like begging for forgiveness until the other sim caves.

Am I asking for too much here? :D

  • @Sk8rblaze THIS IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE!

I miss this kind of gameplay, the Sims 2 was all about storytelling.

Will we ever get this kind of gameplay back? :(

This is already in game. Sims have multiple ways of reacting to cheating. I don't know if those are trait related or random though.

But cheating on TS4 is not very well coded. A lot could be added and reworked. A simple flirt interaction can be considered cheating sometimes, even if it wasn't the commited sim who flirted. In previous games it was a more robust system, to the point kids and family would react to cheating and tell others about it. I think part of cheating was also the gossip interaction.

In TS4 gossiping does nothing, useless. On previous games sims would communicate through gossiping. You'd get to know half the town through that interaction. If they were seeing anyone outside the marrige, if they were rich, their favourites etc.
The only way of knowing if a sim is seeing anyone else on TS4 outside their marrige is through the "hook up with" influence interaction that I believe came with GT. Those who have a romantic interaction with the sim but not in a relationship appear.

TS2 had this: "Sims who have heard a piece of gossip can pass it on to other Sims as well. This is because Sims accumulate gossip memories which do not appear in the memories panel, but which can be viewed with SimPE. Gossip can be started by Sims who witnessed a bad experience, or spread by those who heard the story from other Sims via gossip or chat. " It was part of the memories as well and although it could cause problems since these would accumulate to no end, there was a whole social system behind it.

You can see how TS4 is bottom of the bucket in what comes to social systems and relationships. It sadly, is not made out of smarter sims.

I know that the slapping interaction is already in the game but the whole point of my post is that it could be expanded upon.

I feel like a little slap isn’t enough. And depending on the severity of the situation Sims should react in different ways. This should also be trait related.

For instance, J and Summer Huntington were having a dinner party one night and Liberty Lee came over and tried to flirt with J. Summer got upset and tried to slap J. THIS WASN’T APPROPRIATE. If anything she should have proceeded to slap Liberty for coming onto her husband. Or even “argued” with J for not refusing Liberty’s advances.

Ultimately, these cheating interactions need to be more nuanced.

  • I agree. Just the other night in my legacy house, the wife was having an affair with her father in law. The husband/son saw it and got upset, but the environment around him overrode what he was feeling and even though he was angry from seeing his wife cheating on him with his father, he still accepted her flirts because he was happy from a nicely decorated room. I was like "Come on, be mad at them both! Who cares about the pretty paintings on the wall!"

No reaction at all from kids who witness a cheating parent either. Reacting/witnessing cheating seriously needs an overhaul and needs to be padded out.

But you aren't saying anything I didn't said either. I do think the sim that should have been slapped was Liberty in this example you told.
