@Minstrel For the Sims 4, you are allowed to do in game or CAS. This doesn't really have anything to do with your question, but let me explain the pros and cons. xD
In game pictures are good when you can build a set that directly reflects your assignment. You then don't need to worry about a background as you skin shade, add effects, etc.
In game is also wonderful for getting giant, clear pictures of your sims. The only way to get a large one though is to cut the sim into sections, then edit them back together. (I can provide an example if you need it). The Sims 3 use to have a turn camera option, so your camera could flip to the side and you'd be able to get a large body shot, but the Sims 4 doesn't have it. :/
CAS is good as well, but the downside is that the original background throws a blue glow onto the skin, and the images are smaller and can lose quality faster.
So to answer your question properly, assignments can be done in either way for any type of comp. :lol:
For this comp, I'd prefer it if everyone practiced cutting out sims (either in game or cas) as we do our other topics. This is because cutting out sims can be more difficult or easier depending on the clothes and hair. I want everyone to be prepared for future comps and ideas.
