Help! How to delete single floor tile?

No ceiling tiles missing, I've been checking that they're still intact with each step I take...

And just prove that I'm not going crazy - I rebuilt the entire two rooms from scratch, applied the fence, cleared the floor, placed stairs to get this result (note: surrounding ceilings removed):
