One thing I liked about the skill journal, and relied upon it for, was tracking the titles of my sims' written books. My writers tend to be prolific, and I like to have a record in-game. The Sims 3 skill journal kept one for me.
I don't miss it as much as some features (Create a Style, paintable ceilings, color wheel) but it would be nice to have it back.
I completely forgot how it also tracked the book titles. Such a fantastic feature. I used it all the time and now I really wish we had it back
