I feel like deep down she probably does think she's being helpful, and perhaps she's well meaning, but her friendship with Evie is old and tainted with years of slights and hurtful moments, hang ups and jealousy of each other that their interactions are becoming strained. You're absolutely bang on the money with that one - they're friends now just because they were as kids, and they've never reevaluated.
Yeah this chapter is Evie's first breakthrough moment, where she actually goes and does what she wants despite what everyone else is saying. I'm proud of her too! She doesn't like Liam, and she knows she can't prolong the façade anymore. He's hurt, cos maybe she left it too later, but she did what was best for her.
Kelly is... going to do what Kelly does. She has to eventually work those things out or she'll have along, miserable life ahead.
