@hellohannah2 It's not just slang & expressions and other culture specific references such as the GAA, it's also the types of people (ofcourse I know a "Jen"! ) and I believe I recognise some of the actual places that you describe.

In the summer months I occasionally visit the Surf Shack - which is surrounded by these wonderful Cordyline Australis "palmtrees"- at Curracloe Beach. It always strikes me as very un-Irish looking, which I'm sure is intentional. It's got this real "Carribean" vibe to it.
Surely the place that you mention in your story is inspired by it?
