@hellohannah2 It's not just slang & expressions and other culture specific references such as the GAA, it's also the types of people (ofcourse I know a "Jen"! ) and I believe I recognise some of the actual places that you describe.
In the summer months I occasionally visit the Surf Shack - which is surrounded by these wonderful Cordyline Australis "palmtrees"- at Curracloe Beach. It always strikes me as very un-Irish looking, which I'm sure is intentional. It's got this real "Carribean" vibe to it. Surely the place that you mention in your story is inspired by it? I absolutely adore that beach by the way.
Then there's the musical festival in Laois...please correct me if I'm wrong, but that looks very "Electric Picnic" to me, haha. I'm loving all these subtle nods. My goodness, the memories... ?
