I use household management to move the kids around for this purpose. I guess the calendar could automate the process, but I prefer the fine control of manually moving my sims around.
What I'd want out of a shared parenting pack is the ability to tell the school which parent to call for the school chance cards. The game is pretty keen on always calling the non-custodial sim in a household. Even sims that aren't even marked as caregiver for the child in question.
