100% agree we need a cooking overhaul. I love gardening and cooking in the Sims and it really bothers me that the ingredients don't feel like they have a lot of purpose right now.
I think we should have the option to make all recipes require ingredients, and that having all the required ingredients would mean you can cook the meal for free. In a similar way to how the florist bench works - if you have all the required ingredients it costs nothing to make the arrangement and you can sell it for a tidy profit. It would make rags to riches style challenges much more meaningful if you had to grow or fish for ingredients before you are able to cook.
