Elsbeth wouldn't give up her big family for the world...but it certainly made getting heard and keeping in control difficult. Why be like all her siblings/aunts/cousins/etc. who get walked over and forgotten? Certainly she thinks highly enough of herself, her needs, and her ideas that they need to be heard.
She's good at what she does...but not the best. She's good with computers, but won't make the next Google. She's good with making friends and worming her way into groups, but she's never been popular. Just going along with what might give her a net positive. Rumors swirl around that Elsbeth is nicer when alone or at least drops a lot of her pretense, but that might have just been what her favorite grandparents said about her.
