Name: Marisol Waterman
Age: 19ish-Early 20s (so on the cusp of YA)
Traits: Cheerful, NonCommittal, Outgoing
Marisol grew up in a broken home and she knows it. Her father was frequently depressed and/or out of work. Her mother was caring when Marisol was young, but over time she grew to be a cold, standoffish and slightly bitter woman. She thinks they loved her, but they never seemed to show it. The two of them frequently fought, and were rarely close or affectionate with each other. The family did not have many friends, and Marisol was often lonely as a young child.
Starting from the age of about 8, Marisol sought to spend as much time away from the house and befriended many other children at her school - it worked and she found that she enjoyed spending time with other families more than spending time with her own. While she loved (and still loves) her parents, she realised at quite a young age that her parents were far more unhappy than many other parents she met (i.e. friends' parents). She saw how their isolation and fighting affected them and their relationship, and decided she never wanted to be that way.
Marisol grew up into an outgoing, charismatic and popular teenager. She never tried hard to attain good grades, yet did alright in most of her classes. She had a lot of friends and was popular with boys; she would enter into relationships but never wanted to commit. Her friends sometimes brought up her parents as a reason why, yet she always dismissed them. After graduating, she moved out of the suburbs and into the city centre, seeking fun above all things.
Nowadays Marisol scrapes by, living with several of her friends from school and doing office temp-jobs. She still easily makes friends and is always up for a good bit of fun - she loves to party. She will casually date but still rarely commits.
Under the surface, Marisol is something of a people-pleaser; she is irrationally afraid of becoming isolated and losing all of her friends despite having many of them and being well-liked. Due to the fact that she saw her parents worsening as she got older, she occasionally has the wild thought that perhaps it was her fault they have ended up the way they did.
