On the road vacation pack

People want cars, people want more vacations, why not combine them?

Lets start with a location like the Great Ocean Road
It's 240something km long, with views like this:

Here in Australia, we have what are known as the Grey Nomads. It's people 60+ who spend a portion of the year travelling around the country in RVs or with caravans in tow.

In addition to that, we've got the old school sandman

They were a big part of surf culture in the 1970's and 80's. You can carry a surfboard or two on top, and you can sleep in it. Perfect for a cheap holiday.

Kinda like a kombi, but a bit simpler and a bit cooler.

A Kombi is total luxury compared to a sandman.

Retro is cool, lets go with that.
Old caravans have made a huge comeback.

You want a new fixerupper project for your sim? Why not a caravan?

  • Can we stop at cousin Eddie's on the way to Wallyworld?

    I like the idea.
  • I'm sort of obsessed with the RV movement right now. My short term goal is to buy a class B/B+.

I'd love it if there were vehicles like this in the game.

Since part of the concept of On the Road, is a road trip, I thought some interesting destination 'towns' could replace the usual neighbourhoods

Mining town based on Coober Pedy.

    Spoiler
Coober Pedy is an opal mining town in the desert of the middle bit of Australia.

What makes it particularly unique, is that most of the buildings are underground, and are known as 'dugouts'

While the landscape looks like it belongs in a Mad Max movie, it's actually the location where Pitch Black was filmed

Perhaps a sims version could be like a new version of Strangetown, after all, it's got a crashed spaceship :p
  • Have make out spots for teens and the young at heart (lovers) to watch the "stars", and also have drive in movies to watch or not watch a movie. The drive in movies could be fun for the hole family. When my son was 2, we took our family to a drive in movie, bought some snacks and settled in to watch the movie, my son stood up to look out the window then started yelling at the people in the car beside ours " STOP THAT, STOP THAT." Not really wanting to know why he was saying stop that and not really wanting to find out, we de decided television at home was a could idea, so we went home. (True story)

Also interactions like asking for recommendations for a restaurant/diner, things to do in the area (fishing, sightseeing, etc). Maybe a little gift shop with campy gifts like t-shirts, figurines, local snacks, souvenir mugs...

I hadn't thought of an 'Ask the locals' type interaction, it's a good idea.
And the touristy stuff is also a very good idea, could come with an interaction of 'bore your friends/family to death with stories of your travels' :p

@whyaccess A drive in movie would certainly give cars another use. And it fits with the sort of retro theme I have going here.
  • A customizable camper/mobile home could just play off of the existing home building/decorating mechanics, so it would be a logical way to incorporate vehicles into a game where simply using them as transport isn't really practical due to the nature of world maps. It reminds me of what they did with Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.

    Very smart suggestion.
  • Oh my gosh, I would love this pack. It's such a different idea that hasn't been done before. I'm totally digging the styles/colors of everything.

This concept would also include the sort of stuff that people are wanting to be able to build tiny houses. Stuff like bunk beds, all in one bathrooms and all in one kitchens.

Logistically, most of the animation for an all in one bathroom is already in the game, it'd be much like what is used for the wardrobe. The only thing that would need to be added, is steam coming out of the vents, and whatever noises that sims already make while in the shower.

Same with the all in one kitchen, the animations are already there, it's just a matter of having sims do it all on the one kitchen appliance.

Which then leads to only bunk beds needing new animation.
