Dela awoke early in the morning to the sound of skittering and squeaks and had to bite back a scream.

"Since it looks like you're going to stay, you might as well earn your keep," Dela told Sushi as she backed away from the hole in the wall.

Having a cat around with the newly discovered rodent infestation was definitely a plus, and Dela found she didn't even have the heart to scold Sushi as she jumped up on the table to join her for breakfast.

After Dela went to work, Mia busked for a bit. Dela had always complained that her work was too sporadic, wishing Mia would stick to one career and have a stable income, but Mia loved spontaneity and could never stick to anything for very long.

She was delighted when her best friend Noah called and invited her over. (And her social bar really appreciated it too)

Noah had just finished making a new cake recipe and Mia was more than happy to taste test it for him.
"We should go out tonight," Noah prompted as she took her last bite. "I know karaoke was your and Dela's thing, but you're so good at it and I don't think you should let the break up ruin that for you."

Mia agreed, reluctant at first, but soon embraced the night as they entered the bar.

As she went to go order drinks, she noticed that of all people, Dela was there with another woman!

Dela looked a bit taken aback as the woman led her up to the stage, and the two of them began to sing.

"Is she moving on already?" Mia seethed. "And with karaoke of all things! That's OUR thing."
Noah was sympathetic, but much more rational than Mia. "That's Penny Pizzazz. She's been working on a project with Dela." Of course, having mutual friends with her ex meant that Mia couldn't expect Noah to completely take her side. "You should go up and ask Dela if she'll sing with you. Since you two are stuck living together, you might as well get on friendly terms again, and I know neither of you can resist a good duet."

Mia couldn't argue with that. She downed the rest of her drink, and bravely approached Dela, who hesitantly accepted her offer, unable to help but to crack a small smile.

And just like that, it was like the break up had never happened, if only for a moment.

As the song ended, their fingers nearly brushed, sparks sizzling between them before they abruptly pulled apart.

They didn't speak until they got home, and even then, their conversation was short, as neither wanted the conversation to devolve into arguing. They could hold onto this moment of happiness for now.
