"You don't have to quit your job! You can just take all your vacation days in a row!"
"Is that legal?"
"It's not illegal! Then by the time you run out of vacation days, you'll either be done university or close enough that we can work something out together."
"Mia... you're still assuming 'together'."
"Huh?" Mia hadn't considered that she and Sarah wouldn't always share a house. "Why not?"
"Well... we broke up. Don't people usually move out at some point after that?"
"Do you want to move out?"
Sarah hadn't actually thought of what she wanted, except for the big goal of going to school. "It would be a little farther than living on campus but the commute wouldn't be bad, and I'd save money. And, well, Mia, I really do like being around you."
"But?"
"But I don't want to be tripping over Kiley every day. Or whatever other dates you bring home. I don't want to judge you but I really, really don't want to see it."
Mia had trouble believing that there could be anything bad about having all the people she liked in the same room at the same time, but she was trying to listen and be more understanding. "What if we keep the affectionate stuff private?" she suggested.
"You?" laughed Sarah.
"When you're home, anyway," added Mia.
Sarah sighed happily. "We'll see how it goes."

And so lucky to have, after everything, a good friend.
