Alright I am here, going to add these lots to the Google Doc tonight. My CR sim is made and placed on the lot I want to use, I am so excited to get started remodeling it!!!

I think you got them all @Ojenn @but I haven’t checked thoroughly yet.  Just finishing another shell, this time for a large lot - Vacuous Green Shell, with # DelSolValley, RebuildingWorlds and shell.  You can find it in my gallery as the link isn’t showing up yet.  It’s a modern home with 5 bedrooms!

Okay, I’ve put my five shells on the doc page.  I’m really enjoying doing the shells - without the pressure to decorate, it’s been fun 😆.  I can’t start my challenge yet as I seem to be affected by the glitch where if you hover over a stack in the sims inventory, the game crashes.  I tried it in my BB save and it crashed, so I can’t play it or Isolde’s save until then.  I’m still thinking of doing a remodel of Grapevine Terrace on the medium lot though, or perhaps build the plan I found two days ago.  Just can’t start the challenge yet 😔.

Oh that bug does not sound fun at all! Hopefully, they put out a fix for it so you can play! I am toying with different plans atm but I build slow so by the time everyone is ready I might be ready too lol

So I was sitting here getting ready to start remodeling when I thought of something. When someone is using a shell and placing it down on a plot that already has a house, plants etc do we want to let them add the funds from bulldozing to their total budget?

I’m hoping they get a fix for it very soon as well because I’ve read simmers advising not to play legacy saves until it’s fixed.  While I could probably avoid the issue, best not to risk it.  The BB heir has lightsabers and crystals in their inventories, while Isolde has wands and brooms, and since those items are stackable, it could cause issues.  

But my plan for when I can play is that Isolde will move to the medium or large block with her soon-to-be-hubby and she will become a jeweller.  Hubby will either become a wine maker or raise some mini goats and sheep.  Still can’t decide between doing a build for the large lot or transferring the Grapevine house onto the medium lot and remodelling it - I think I need to test both of them out.  

Btw, looked at the shells you’ve found - they look good!  Makes me think I should have put walls and floors in mine but oh well 🤷‍♀️.  They’ve had some downloads since I posted them so obviously there’s a few people out there who like them!  I might do one or two more, depending on how much I can play.

My thoughts on that would be that they should put the shell down first BEFORE buying the lot.  It will be a lot cheaper to buy a lot with a shell on it than one with a lot on it.  That is what I’ve been doing in my BB save - building the shell in another save, then transferring it to the main save and then buying it, using the remaining funds to furnish the house.  For Isolde’s challenge, I was planning on making sure she had just enough money to cover buying the lot and remodelling/building the house, and then she would have to earn more 🤣.  (Although mind you, I don’t actually know how much money she has right now but I’ll have to be shifting her out of the HoB house I built for her so she might end up with a bit!)

But I suppose it might also depend on how much money the founding sim/heirs have and if they need extra money to do the house.  If you are using a starting sim with $20,000, it might be tough to redo a large lot without the extra cash.  

Does bulldozing add money to the budget?  I never knew that!

To add to that, I’ve just tried building the large house plan I liked and it’s bumped the value of the lot up to $43,000!  I don’t know whether that matches in with how much it would cost to build if I had a family on the lot but that means it wouldn’t leave much left in the budget for decorating.  Maybe we should up the budgets to $40,000 for the medium lot and $60,000 for the large one!  I probably would still find it hard to furnish the property for $17,000 because I haven’t even put windows or doors in!  We either need to rethink the budget or rethink the floor plans 🤣.  Or don’t include the shell in the budget, if people go that route.

Yeah I am play testing mode right now myself! I think the budgets need to change a bit perhaps we should put that in the starter guide so it doesn't get confusing.

Maybe one price for remodelling or using the shells, but the lot price not included in the budget.  Then a different price if you’re building from scratch.  We would have to work out how much it would cost just to build a house complete with windows and doors but I would estimate it could be somewhere around $10,000 just for a small lot.

I'm going to do some more building this afternoon, see what the total costs ends up as.  I think I’m going to go with the big lot because I’ve determined that part of the house could actually serve as a ‘shop’ for Isolde and hubby to sell their jewellery and wine, and the garage can be where Isolde’s coven meets each week 🙂

Ok sounds good! I am currently trying to build with the large lot budget as well to see. I am only adding walls, doors and windows with no furniture to see if I can do it at 50k

I've finished the shell on the large lot.  It is now valued at $64,500 with windows, doors, floor and wall coverings but no furniture of any kind.  

Because I didn't put a sim in there, I don't have a clue how much it cost to build.  But it would go way over budget just to buy!  

About to go back in and download a sim into the small lot and see if I can build something for $20,000!

Built this small house on the Canyon Crossing lot.  Started with $18,800 after buying the lot.  By the time I built the house, put the floor and wall coverings on, and doors and windows in, I had just over $3,000 left.  I think we definitely need to rethink the budget...

Okay, so budgets need reworked lol What do we think about 80k for a large then? I'd like the budget to be enough to furnish but still challenging I think

I think those numbers are good. I ran out steam tonight but I am building a large from the plans and the walls are up with paint, windows, and some furnishings. Still have around 20k left over to decorate and add landscaping

I went in game and furnished the small house with an added $20,000 to the budget from yesterday.  I spent just over $21,000 to furnish the house, including 3 bedrooms and two small bathrooms.  $20,000 is going to be very tight but it is doable.  So maybe we should make it $30k/$70k for the medium house and $40k/$100k for the large one because I barely had any money for decorations or rugs.  How did you go with creating the large house for $80k?  

Looking at the property value of the small house, it is just over $33k for around $36k of building, which means the big house did have around $64k spent on it!  I’m not sure I can outfit that with $16k, and even $36k would be pushing it to fully furnish it! Do we want to state that the budget is just for starting off and extras can be added later or does that defeat the purpose of having a budget?

I'm very behind!  I'm going to try building one tonight with the budget and see how it goes 🙂
