My instructor, Miss Williams told me to hussle and get going with my mural. The deco art runway show was starting in two days. The set was a full crew of many people, rushing, giving direction it was a "Mad House". So backstage things were being set up for the models to prepare for the art deco runway show. The models were frantic. They were being sized and doing makeup and hair to rehearse for the show. One came up to me and with a growl said to me " Who are you and why are you even here? " I stumbled with my words and stuttered with her presence and attitude with me. I am from the boot camp modeling school. She says " Oh, your one of "those".
You think you have what it takes to be a model? I replied "Well, I wanna learn, its been my dream for years. " She stomped off in her high heels laughing histarically and pointed at me in front of the other models. " Look at her waning to be a model thinks she knows what it takes, I doubt it. I wanted to cry and just yell back at her so bad but I knew I had to get to work on the mural. Thank goodness I had painted since I was about 10 years old and went to art camp in my summer breaks. That's why I asked to do this and Miss Williams said to me "You had better do a good job, I have seen your drawings and they are wonderful so I hope you can paint as well as you draw. " There was so much chaos around me I was so scared I couldnt concentrate and that model really intimidated me and was so mean.
One of my classmates showed up, It was Sabi coming to help backstage. What a relief to see her. She told me all about her mishap with her head down. I said its ok, Sabi. We are here to learn and things like that I guess happen with all the Chaoes and Rush Rush. I am so sorry that happened to you. Do you want to watch me paint for a bit before you have to get to work. What did Miss Williams tell you to do? Sabi said Miss Williams wants me to assist the hair stylist. I am really excited to help. In the middle of our conversation in walks a man, to my amazement it was Shemar Moore. I thought I would pass out. He was a famous model in his early years and now an actor which I was such a super fan of him. He announced to everyone backstage he was there to mentor. "OMGOSH" Shemar Moore in the flesh!! " He got busy talking to the models and hairstylist and makeup artists. So I hurridly started my mural. As I was painting I was thinking wow my art will be a big part of the runway show.
I was so happy it was art deco. I decided to go with a piece that was somewhat pop art. I worked and worked on my mural. The day started at 8am and by lunch I was almost half done. Grabbed a sandwich and off I went hurridly to finish up my mural. I kept looking around for Shemar Moore. I just could not believe he was here. One of my Idols! Sabi walked over again to watch me paint. We decided to take a break together and chit chat about "Girl Stuff" and about how exciting modeling bootcamp was. She was ecstatic about working with the hair stylist and she told me all about it with such enthusiam. I was so happy for her. We both went back to our assignments. by the evening my mural was taking shape and I only had a bit more touches to finish it up. I remembered I had to run back to the dorm to grab some brushes I forgot. I came back and I was "SHOCKED" My mural was destroyed. I just started screaming and crying and yelling, Who did this? I can't believe someone would do this ... Who do this?
I was histarical. Staring at my mural and sobbing. Nobody responded but Sabi, She tried to calm me down and give me a hug. I cried to Sabi, Why Why Why? She just held me hugging me and saying it will be ok Carm, I am so sorry this happened I was not here while you were gone. I was told to check in with Mr. Lancy about an upcoming project for me to do at the school too. I heard footsteps coming towards us, It was Shemar Moore.
He said to me "Baby Girl" Which he says to all his female fans, I was gone for dinner and just now getting back. Come over here and sit down with me, I want to talk to you. As I was walking over the one model was fuming, and cutting her eyes at me having Shemar consoling me. He says to me, This was a horrible horrible thing to happen to you or anyone I watched you as you painted. If you paint with that much passion, You will have that passion in your modeling I just know it. I saw the one model, Lauren cutting her eyes at you and heard her talking sarcastically about you, She sees in you the beauty you are and is probably jealous of that being she is at the end of her career. You have to learn this industry is a very hard one. You have to get a "Thick Skin." You will be going through interview where they will tell you such negative things. Your too this or that. But what I see in you is passion and determination to succeed.
Now let's dry your eyes and I will be the jokster everyone knows me to be to bring a big smile to that pretty face. Shemar joked and joked with me and he gave me such encouraging words that I can be tougher and have a thick skin and deal with the bad that happens in this industry. He said I have to leave now. I have an appointment. But you remember believe in yourself and what happened today was horrid. I will deal with that model before I leave. I will try and find out who did this. I will talk to Miss Williams and ask her to let you have a couple of days off class. So, chin up! There are 2 days before the runway show starts so get inpired and do a beautiful piece for the show. I thanked him for everything he said and did for me.
He really cheered me up and gave me pointers while we chatted about modeling. I will never forget him and how he helped me. I went back to the dorm and called Mom, We talked for hours and said to me what Mr. Moore told you is right and I am so sorry this happened Carm, try and relax and do some drawings and practice your modeling in the mirror like you always have done and dont let this discourage you. I said " Ok Mom, Thanks" You always know what to say to cheer me up.
Sabi came to my room, She said let's go out for pizza and just talk and I hear there is a band in town so let's go! C'mon Carm, Let's go! Ok Sabi sounds like fun!
