Oh! What happened to your post? :)
i was sort of lost then you started talking about ants then i posted about 2 years ago so i edited.
LOL! You know me... I've always got five conversations happening simultaneously! I was following what you were saying, too.
The thing about ants comes from this really neat part of Ripu's story...
Spoiler
Death (who has taken on the form of this cute, pale guy named "Tad") is trying to explain to his landlady, Amelia, what it's like to be death. And this is what he says:
"Now then, imagine yourself observing an anthill, and imagine that you like each and every ant. Imagine that you are a part of each and every ant, yet you are also still you, the human who can understand the ants and their pheromone language only in theory. You are everywhere in their hill, but you are also in one place, looming above it. You should be stretched thin, but you cannot be. You observe the ants and know that you are too different and too big for the ants to see you as anything more than a part of the scenery. The ants are brilliant and manage fine for the most part, almost never needing your help..."

That part about the ants gives me goosebumps because it fits up with something that I sometimes feel--and something that I sometimes almost, but not quite, feel--so I've mentioned it a few times, because it is so profound to me, and so Medley was saying she could see why I liked it.
It also reminds me SO much of what Medley is writing about with darkness taking on different skins. In a lot of ways, Medley and Ripu are writing about the same themes.
