I had to think as to whether Chronicles had this in play at all, and I think it does! For an example:

Arc 3 onward, the protagonists end up taking in Sagebear (why Annette is not able to care for her is explained in the story). As a result, Many of the events with them also involve her going along, and she's treated like any member of the family. I guess it counts because Sagebear is a dog (and technically a zombie), and the others are all human.
That's for the protagonist side. For the antagonist side:

The assistant known as Horse-Face is ostensibly human (at least at this point in time, he's assumed to be). The other three assistants are most likely not (you have a possible vampire, a Frankenstein-esque walking patchwork project, and a half-demon), and The Builder certainly isn't. (The question for them isn't who are they, but rather what are they) All of them definitely have worked together, albeit unwillingly, to carry out The Builder's commands.
So in a sort of twisted way, it can apply to both sides.
