Reuben and I met at the showgrounds bright and early. We arrived just as the sun was coming up.
"How lucky are we? The one time the carnival's in town we are having our next date. Are you up for a bit of fun, Reuben?"
"Absolutely, Kim, especially when it's with you. We always have such a great time together."
"We do, don't we?"
"I am glad we came so early, Kimmy, we can really make a full day and night of this."
"Are you up for it, Reuben? It'll be a long day."
"Sure, are you?" Reuben said raising one eyebrow. "Besides we can relax after that, wherever and do whatever you want."
"Oh, I'm up for it. That is for sure. What do you want to do first?"
"Wow look at that rollercoaster. This place is like Disneyland." Reuben said.
"I wouldn't know," I've never been there."
"You haven't? I'll take you there some time, Kimmy, that is a promise."
"Oh, really?" I smiled. "I'll hold you to that," I replied.
"I'm counting on that."
"Rollercoaster then?" I suggested.
"Yes let's go."
Reuben paid our way in and we headed straight to the rollercoaster.
"Reuben you didn't have to pay, we could have gone halves."
"I know, but you know me, I'm a bit old-school and love spoiling you."
"Okay but I'll pay for lunch, I insist, okay?"
"Ooh bossy, I like this side of you, Kimmy."
"I just think it's only fair that we share the load in everything, work, play, and leisure; that's just me."
"Good then, that's settled, shall we get on now. I think it's a good idea that we're doing this before lunch."
We both laughed. "That's is for sure," I replied.
I held my breath nearly all the way. The ride lasted a couple of minutes, it was so fast, whatever we'd eaten would have come up for sure. if we weren't careful.
"Whoa! I think my stomach is still up there somewhere." I got out of the cart and my legs went to jelly. Reuben caught me and helped me to get back on my feet. "Thanks, phew! didn't know it would affect me like that. It was fun though, but once is enough."
"Your welcome, Kimmy. Let's do something just a little more relaxing this time. How about Dodgem Cars?"
"Sounds good, you can drive. Let's hope we're not bumped too many times, Hey?"
"Not too many here at the moment, let's have the whole place to ourselves, what do you say?"
"I'm not sure how long it will last, there are heaps of people coming in now it's that bit later," I replied.
"Then it's a perfect time then."
Reuben drove around and I just rested on him all the way. "It was surprisingly peaceful compared to other rides."
"That's because the 'ol dodgems are not considered exciting enough," he said gesturing quotes around 'exciting'.
"So what next, I've heard a lot of nice things about the Tunnel of Love, want to try it out?"
I looked up at Reuben and smiled. "Yes, let's, it will be nice and relaxing."
By the time we'd had lunch we sat and talked for ages, I spotted the merry-go-round and got excited. I always loved riding the horses from when I was a little kid. Let's have a ride."
"Sure I'll stand next to your horse like your knight in shining armour," Reuben laughed.
"Please do, my good sir."
"After you, my Lady." Reuben bowed like a noble knight and we went on the ride. Afterwards, on the lawn, he pulled me to him and kissed me.
"You are so enticing when you are like this, Kimmy."
I felt my face burning. "I've had another great day, Reuben and but I know of another place we can go which will complete this day perfectly."
"Then what are we waiting for?"
We headed to the outskirts of town near a large lake that led into the ocean. In the water was a large screen for outdoor movies.
"Wow! Kimmy, how did you know about this place?"
"Oh, I did a bit of googling and saw this place and thought it might be a nice way to finish the day."
"What is playing?"
"It's an old classic. Hope you like old classics. It's Casablanca."
"Yes! I love old classic movies, that is a perfect choice."
"Well, I didn't choose it. It just happened to be on tonight."
"In this movie you really experience all sorts of emotions." I glanced at Reuben who seemed to be watching me. "What's wrong aren't you enjoying the movie?"
"Loving it, but you know what they have said about tonight, don't you?"
"Yes, I know the__"
"The 'Fantasy Suite'."
"Yes, I knew to what you meant." We forgot about the movie. Reuben picked me up and put me in his lap.
"So what are your thoughts?"
"That is a loaded question, Reuben. I am like you, in that I'm a bit old school and really like the doors being opened and all the gentlemanly things you do as second nature. As for moving to the next step in our relationship...I want to, you are so special and my feelings have grown so much for you. In fact, I think love is definitely there, but I want you to be sure who you would like to go that next step with. I've no doubts Leila will jump at the chance, but for me, I need us both to be sure that is what we want, so until you make that choice I'd like to continue to be together until we are sure that is what we both want and I really hope this won't impact on our relationship."
Reuben looked into my eyes lovingly and smiled. "You really are special to me, Kimmy and what you have just said, makes me desire you even more."
I returned his loving look and we finished watching the movie in each other's arms.
Reuben rang the hotel room and cancelled the overnight stay, but we didn't let go of each other all night.
Directors Question 1. We discussed it at length and both felt the same way I think. No matter how much I want to be closer to him, I want Reuben to make his choice before I commit to moving to that next step in our relationship. The chemistry is definitely there, but I like to have a deep and meaningful relationship first and we are definitely going in that direction.
Directors Question 2. I don't know how I'd feel or whether it would change things between us if I found out he had slept with any of the other girls, but I do trust Reuben with the sort of values he has to make that decision for himself. If it does turn out that way, I'm sure if the situation arises, he may possibly need to discuss it between his choice of lady, and him, for them to be able to move on.
