When writing dialogue do you keep talking from the same person in the same paragraph and only change paragraphs when the speaker changes? Or do you start a new paragraph for every line of dialogue no matter the speaker?
Example:
Same person talking:
"Hi," description, "How are you?"
OR
"Hi," description.
"How are you?"
I do the first one. To me, when I see a paragraph in dialogue I assume the speaker has changed. Unless it's like this:
"Words to fill a long paragraph, like a speech or something. Leave the end quotation off.
Then there's a paragraph because the speech is so long that it needs one. Then close with the ending mark."
