Hi everyone, this is definitely off the topic of SimLit but I wanted to share that I got a new job! I'm very excited because the position is information and communications management for a local nonprofit I've been volunteering with- perfect for me since my bachelors degree is in communications and I'm currently in graduate school for my masters in nonprofit management and leadership. This is the first time I will be in a higher level management position.
This particular job is close to home and I can do the bulk of my work from home (which is great because my husband and I are currently sharing a vehicle and we're in the market for a second which we can now afford with me working). The hours are part-time which is good because I'm attending university part-time. I can balance my studies and my work. I will be working on website and social media management, internal communications, writing the newsletters and announcements, managing contact database and sending weekly emails, connecting various people in the organization with one another, and even some program development and event planning.
The best part is I finally get to do a job with people I know and like and I get to use my writing and communications skills for an organization who is doing fantastic work in the community. And I'll be able to continue to improve my writing professionally and analytically, which I hope will also help me as a creative writer.
Just wanted to share because this means I might be a little busier than normal and may be in the community a little less, but I'll still be around.
