Great to hear you got a new job! :)
Anyway, figured I'd express myself in this thread:
Lately, I've been feeling a bit, shall we say...disconnected. I think it's because Chronicles has entered its final Arc, and I guess I'm not ready to end it. I'm worried that when I do finish it, I'll be at a loss.
If I had to describe it, it'd be described as "What now?" Since I've devoted so much time to writing this story (over a year), once it's done, then what do I do?
I know I can just start another story (with screenshots this time!), but then I'll have to end that one too. Then the feeling will just return, and the cycle begins again.
Yeah, I don't know. I guess I'm just in a bit of a rut. :/
@rednenemon I never responded to your question.
First, thanks for the congrats!
Second, I can understand feeling disconnected. You've been working on Chronicles for such a long time. I would probably feel the same way. My two-cents? Think of this as an opportunity to start a new project. Give yourself permission to be excited. You can obviously take some time in between to figure out what you will be working on, and you can give yourself a break to allow for closure for Chronicles. Still, I would view this as a celebration. You've accomplished something awesome - 10 arcs?
Have you considered a spinoff or are you thinking about a brand new project/family?
I do understand getting attached to characters. I view many of my characters as my babies. It's sad to let go. Give yourself time to grieve if you need to, because honestly, for me it would be grief if I was coming to the close of Kass and some of my other beloved characters. You've shared in the joys and struggles, stresses and blessings, loves and losses, and have developed emotional bonds to your characters. It's perfectly natural to feel sadness. Do something little for yourself to help with the sadness and to celebrate - for me, green tea ice cream always helps. :)
One thing I did for my novel - after a character died and of course, I wrote the death scene so I knew it was coming, but it was still so hard - I wrote a letter to that character, just for myself. It allowed me to express my gratitude, share favorite moments, express my love for this character, and even to grieve their loss. It sounds silly, but it was really therapeutic for me, and gave me closure.
You can also ask fans/readers to share their favorite moments, scenes, quotes, or characters with you from Chronicles and create a post or something with their feedback afterwards - as a way of celebrating the accomplishment and season of the Chronicles with you.
