So.
I'm not going to sit here and be a downer. But I'm glad I found this thread.
Not too long ago I lost a very beloved save in The Sims 4. Think: Legacy Challenge, Windenburg, Generation four or five. It was like magic, because as soon as I decided to go against myself and upload the current house to my Library, I somehow managed to save over the save file and lose everything I had done except the upload I had made.
Begin Build Newcrest Challenge! Yay!!
Still.
I'm not a very social person. And I wonder, sometimes, if everything I do is just wasted. I spend a lot of time alone, staring at my friends on a computer screen, building houses and lives and communities... and begin to wonder if it's just all in my head. So, if anyone plays The Sims 4, feel free to check out my list of Sims/Houses/Lots on the Community site. Hashtag MysteryMade
Mostly, I do stuff myself because I don't use the MOO cheat. Not that I'm against it, just that I have had some very, very bad experiences with it and decided to use no cheats in my game. (Exception: ResetSim, etc)
And remember to have a wonderful day. ~.~ It's almost time for the Day Of The Dead Challenge. WOOT!
Hi, @AngelAries !
I'm sorry to hear about your lost save. I had that happen to me in Sims 3 (corrupt game, not overwritten, but a loss nonetheless) in gen 4 of a legacy. It is sad.
In terms of the question, "Is the time spent doing this wasted?" I've asked that sometimes.
When I enjoy it, and when I get actual good feelings from playing and writing, then I don't feel it's wasted because those good feelings contribute to my health, well-being, and my ability to be kind and cheerful to others. So that's a benefit!
When I feel inspired from it--and feel that opening of positive energy--then it's also not a waste because that positive energy flows into other creative activities, too, and makes me overall more creative, productive, inspired... and happy. So that's a benefit.
Sometimes I wonder if the hours I put in writing my Sims stories are wasted--would my time and energy be better invested in writing non-Sim fiction that's intended for publication? Truth is, the work I write for other outlets doesn't get readers. My blog does--it's reached more readers than any of my other writing, save for what I do for my job. And when my writing helps me develop as a write, definitely it's not time wasted.
When any of these activities help me grow and develop as a person, it feels beneficial. And when they connect me with other people, that's cool, too.
If you're enjoying what you do or finding some benefit from it, then it's not wasted.
It's good and healthy to have balance, too--for me, if I could choose an evening watching tv or an evening Simming, reading Sim stories, and writing, I'd choose the Sim-related activities as more beneficial (and enjoyable) for me...
If Simming starts encroaching on my cello practice, my gardening time, my exercise time or my home responsibilities, then I begin to feel that I need to restore a healthy balance.
