Oh, gosh! I love this letter so much!
I feel like it's really good for both Norman and Meadow to have pen pals--they've led such insular lives that they hardly know anything about other lifestyles! Everyone seems so wise and experienced to them! It's really fun.

Well, in the particular case of Meadow and Norman, it means "sheltered"--they grew up in a very privileged family and didn't have a lot of experiences with other people.
