I mentioned merpeople because sims can't swim forever. They get tired and need to recuperate unlike merpeople that can swim great lengths. An underwater world would be problematic. How would the MAP work? Would there be any land? How would walk-bys work? Swim-bys instead? There are a lot of things that can't be done underwater, cooking, peeing, pooping, etc. Where/how does this happen?
As for dive lots being confining. I don't think that matters, IMO. There were 4(?) dive lots in IP and they all basically looked and played the same. Expanding that to a neighborhood or even a world, won't change that. Boring s boring no matter how big or small it is.
Are you wanting some type of underwater city? I don't think that would be smart or feasible. I don't think an underwater world is the answer and I don't think they would do it anyway, too much would need to be changed or reworked. For example, how would they travel? The phone wouldn't work underwater or do you want the reality of underwater living ignored?
I think I'm sticking with the idea of a large aquarium tank that holds a vast assortment of underwater creatures for sim divers to explore.
I see the issue here: you read a lot of things into what I post, though, I have never mentioned them.
To begin with, by your logic, the neighborhoods of TS4 should all have been confined to one single 64x64 lot. Because, well, more room to do things isn't useful at all. You're the only person that I've ever seen argue for less room to do things instead of more.
What I said was that diving in TS3 was too
confining due to the small area involved. I didn't say that it was boring at all! On the contrary, I loved the diving and found it very entertaining. The concept of "boring" comes from your own mind, not from anything that I have written.
As for the other things that you've mentioned, they are irrelevant in the scope of what I was discussing. I was writing about scuba diving and submersibles, not
living under the sea. When scuba diving, there is no need to pee, or poop, or cook, or sleep, or any of those things that you have brought up. Whenever a diver needs to do those things, they return to the surface. Simple and no different than what happens IRL.
For deeper, more extended dives, I mentioned the idea of a submersible vehicle with robotic arms. That's exactly the kind of fantastical (remarkable) thing that is right up the Sims series alley. The only real limitation in that case of a submersible would be oxygen and fuel. An imaginary foley catheter or funnel type system would take care of bladder needs. It could just be assumed that such a thing existed within the vehicle and that Sims could take care of those needs on the fly. A bit of dry food (as in World Adventures) would take care hunger. As for energy, Sims needn't get any more tired using a submersible than they would, say, driving a car.
I mentioned an underwater city to dive in and to explore, not to live. The larger the area, the more things that could be added to explore. Picture the tombs of TS3, except they are under water, with different types of hazards. That is what I was going for.
Using the current mechanics of the game, lots would be required in order for players to edit this underwater world, just like in TS3. I would just prefer that some of the lots be connected by public spaces instead of having to resurface and move to an entirely different location. This is my solution to making diving areas larger than a 64x64 lot.
TS4 worlds just aren't big enough to contain many varied diving spots. However, if the diving area consisted of neighborhoods of their own, which exist within their own dimensions (as other neighborhoods do), there would be a lot more room for flexibility and imagination. Simply have a Sim boat (or swim, I guess) out into the sea with their gear then submerge. That's where the loading screen could come in.
All of this is simply an idea, It's an idea no different than any of the ideas that you have come up with, nor any more impossible. You can stick with your own idea, that's fine. By all means please do, no one tried to stop you. By the same token, based on some of the mechanics already available in the game, I have my own ideas.
I'm not interested in activities that add even more limitations. I'm looking to expand the adventures of the game, not to limit them even more. I'd much prefer to have a Sim swim in and to explore the natural environment of an ocean, rather than an underwater amusement park, which is pretty much what you have described. We want different things and there is nothing wrong with that.
