The Sims 4: Seasonal Getaway (EP Idea)
I'm sure that the ideas here are hardly read if ever, but I've been thinking about this a bit and think it'd be a really awesome Expansion Pack. What I think is missing from the game the most more than 'content' is 'flavor.' There's only one vacation destination so far and the game is in a literal dry season (as in, like, no weather). Thus, I think the ideal Expansion Pack I'd most love to see is what I'll call "Seasonal Getaway" that combines aspects of the much-desired 'Seasons' and 'Vacation' Expansion Packs into one.
Primary Features
THREE New Vacation Zones: Almost every season would be represented by a new vacation zone each set to permanently be one of the seasons.
For Winter, we'd get a ski-resort mountain area similar to what we had in The Sims: Vacation. Sims can ski on small slopes snowboard on half-pipes, play in the snow, curl up in the ski lodge around the fireplace and stay warm with hot beverages.
For Spring, we'd have an East Asian vacation similar to Takemizu Village in The Sims 2: Bon Voyage or Shang Shimla in The Sims 3: World Adventures. The cherry blossoms are in bloom, creating a romantic getaway for couples, or enjoy the local scenery for other adventurous Sims who want to explore the historical sites.
For Summer, a beach resort island similar to The Sims: Vacation or Twikkii Island in Th Sims 2: Bon Boyage: go sun tanning, play volleyball on the beach, go swimming in the ocean or the pool, learn to firedance, and enjoy tropical drinks.
Finally, for fall, we would have a camping ground already included in Outdoor Retreat, which would simply just be updated to be permanent-Fall. (The seasons for each neighborhood can be modified: this would be the defaulted suggestions.)
Secondary Features
I feel like this would be a real game-changing Expansion Pack that provides a lot of FLAVOR to the game that has been missing so far. The gameplay can be a bit homogenous at times and introducing new vacation worlds and new seasons would give the day-to-day life a lot of flair. This a way to tackle two birds with one stone and provide a truly awesome experience.
Primary Features
- Seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer & Fall! Seasons and weather would add a huge difference to the game, making the days feel more distinct from each other and give a lot of interactions throughout the gameplay. It'd be great ESPECIALLY with Emotions system!
- Winter's snowy days would bring the ability for playing in the snow with snowball fights, building snowmen, camping in igloos, ice-sculpting, going ice-fishing, and ice skating on pools and ponds or on ice-skating rinks.
- On Spring days, there's pollen in the air and higher chance of rain: gardening benefits from this season, and pollens can bring on moods or even some allergies.
- On Summer days, the heat can get to you: Sims can go sunbathing to work on a tan and glow - or a sunburn! Sims can also swim in the shallow waters and even go surfing while staying close to the shore.
- On Fall days, piles of leaves will form as vegetation and flora goes stale in preparation for the winter.
- Weather would have a big impact on emotions: On rainy days, Sims might get a bit Sad and gloomy, or Bored as they stay in. Sunny days can bring a positive mood as Sims feel Happy or Energized, and too many days without sun such as during long winter stretches might get Sims also feeling Sad or gloomy. Snowy days might make Sims feel Flirty as they desire to curl up and stay warm. Pollen during Spring can have different impacts - being around flowers during this season may make Sims feel Flirty or Energized or Happy, while others might feel Tense from sinus allergies. Generally cold days can make Sims either Uncomfortable or Sad if they get too cold from over-exposure, and hot days can also make Sims feel Uncomfortable or Tense if they are out too long - especially if they burn. Different weathers may make Sims also feel Playful as they play in the snow or rain or leaves.
Secondary Features
- New CAS Items: There'd be new CAS items for each season. Stylish and/or heavy coats and other outwear to represent Winter. Swimsuits, tropical and resort-wear and looser clothing to represent Summer. Florals for Spring (groundbreaking!) and flannels and warmer clothes for Fall.
- New Build/Buy Items: Of course there would be new Buy Mode objects as well for the different seasons and weather, including Build Mode objects. Fireplaces and cozy aesthetic items for the Winter and Fall, beach and tiki or tropical inspired items for Summer and beach vacation neighborhood, and East Asian influenced Build and Buy mode items for the new neighborhood.
- New Traits: Some Sims prefer to be warm and some prefer to be cold. Sims with a Warm-Preference get boosted positive moodlets and build skills faster during Spring and Summer, but the negative moodlets hit harder and build skills slower during Fall and Winter while Sims with a Cold-Preference have the opposite. Warm Sims are also less likely to get sunburns or negative moodlets from the heat, but more likely to negative moodlets in the cold (and again, Cold-preference Sims have the opposite).
- New Lot Types: While 'Vacation Homes' are already a think from Outdoor Retreat, Hotels would be an awesome addition that run similarly but sort of a cross-breed of that and how Apartments are in City Living. The Sims 2: Bon Voyage had a system for this that worked great, so along those lines. (The Sims 3: Island Paradise had a managing resort system - while that was fun as well, another property for Sims to manage would be 'cool' but not necessary as much as just having hotels in general.) Hotels can also be built or placed on non-vacation zones, so Sims in Willow Creek can rent a hotel in San Myshuno for a city vacation as well, if they'd like. Additionally, Beaches would be a new lot type that would mostly exist in the beach vacation zone where the lots can meet the water that Sims can get in and swim and surf.
- New Recipes: There'd be new recipes inspired by the seasons: autumnal dishes for the fall like butternut squash, holiday turkey, yams, sweet potatoes; summer and tropical dishes and drinks for like gazpacho, sangria, poke bowls, mai tais, etc. for each season and travel destination.
- New Skills: Surfing, Fire-Dancing, Ice-Sculpting, Snowman/Igloo Building, and more.
