I was going to write one for the beginners comp, but I guess it's not needed anymore.... :o However, I know several methods that work, even for different situations, so I guess I can still do it. I just wish everyone had waited patiently....
And there's really no need for picmonkey if someone wants to continue editing for modeling comps. Gimp can handle your backgrounds easily, so I'm curious as to why you chose it. :O
Great job on the guides though!
Thanks for stopping by Mizore :) to answer your question, I chose Picmonkey because it seemed easier to me and more practical as you immediately edit your work with effects right after, takes less time and the website is simply a favorite of mine XD
For the selection thing, I watched a Youtube vid about it and the maker said that filling up with pattern is nice step to ensure that the background is fully removed in case it's not solid white. I just wanted to add it so that the guys would know. However, I do agree with you, you can simply hit delete right after if the background is one solid color, it does work both ways
I would be truly more than happy to have you add a tutorial on adding background on Gimp in here. It would be truly helpful to everyone, specially in case they don't have internet access for editing.
Hmmm. That makes sense, but doing it in Gimp saves you from having to load an image back and forth and saves you from possible quality degradation. Probably a good idea for last minute additions though if someone was in a hurry.
That's a good idea, but that's also why it's important to have a contrasting background when taking the picture, like a green screen. xD
I'm writing tutorials for the beginners comp and will be covering several ideas and methods for each technique, and adding a background will be in there, so forgive me if I don't submit it here. It's taking me a while to get the comp up because I need to plan each assignment and I am doing both Gimp and Photoshop in my tutorials. I can't just rush out the tutorials without having problems later down the road, especially since I have to cover several methods and may miss something, and also the fact that both programs are different. Like liquifying. It's under a completely different category and has different instructions for Gimp. Most people don't even know it exists.
And I understand the limited internet for videos, so that's why my tutorials will feature any videos available but be written for those who need it.
As I said in my update though, the comp should be up this week. If I can manage it, tonight or tomorrow.
And it's not an actual competition where you have to sign up and be committed, it's an open competition so anyone is allowed to jump in at any time, just for those curious and wondering what to expect. You submit, have it commented on and tips given, and everyone can share their progress in an easy going place. It's a community event and project, as I wanted it to be something fun we could all do together. ^_^
