Kimberly was in her 3rd trimester now and had finally stopped feeling nauseous. Thomas and Kimberly took a trip into Finchwick to visit her father at his new blacksmith shop in town.
“What do you think of my new place?” Benjamin asked as he gave Kimberly a hug.
“It’s perfect,” she replied. “We have some news for you as well.” She patted her stomach.
Benjamin seemed to be at a loss for words.

“You’re…”

“You’re with child?”

Kimberly laughed her singsong laugh. “Yes, we’re expecting the baby any day now.”
Benjamin was overcome with emotion. He wiped his eyes on his sleeve, sniffed, and then smiled.
“I’m truly happy for you both.”

“We’d like it if you’d come by later for dinner,” Kimberly told her father.
“I will come. I’d like to see where you’re living now.”

While they were in Finchwick they were surprised by Anna and Caitlin.
“Thomas!” Anna called.

“I’m so glad we ran into you. It saves us the trouble of sending a letter.”
“Has something happened?” Thomas asked.

“Richard received word that he is to receive some land in the Bramblewood to be closer to the Knight’s Stronghold where he is to serve as Knight. So, we’ve moved. It’s a very nice place, there’s plenty of space there and farmland. But oh…”
She suddenly started to cry.

“Father has fallen ill.”
“Ill?”
She composed herself and went on. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t be upset. The physician said it wasn’t very serious. He should recover, but he needs to rest for a while.”

“I’m afraid they will not be able to move back home to the farm with you. I’m sorry, Thomas.”
“It’s okay, we will manage,” he assured her. He was just glad it wasn’t anything too serious that his father was ill with. He said a silent prayer that everything would work out.
“The new cottage has lots of room for Mother and Father, and there is farmland that needs tended to…and well, we talked about it and thought it might be best for Mother and Father to stay with us long term.”
“I see…” Thomas was thinking this news over in his head. He hadn’t expected to inherit the farm so soon.
“I hope you’re okay with it?” Anna asked hesitantly.
“Like I said, we can manage. I’m just glad that Father is okay. Make sure he gets lots of rest.”
His mother came over then and Thomas asked her how she was doing.

“It’s nothing serious,” Caitlin assured him, just like Anna had. “We are quite comfortable with Richard and Anna. They’ve been so gracious to us. And we are happy to work the farm there. I’m sorry we won’t be able to come and help you when the baby comes.”
“It’s alright, Mother. We’ve got everything handled. And the Bramblewood is not far; we’ll come visit after the baby arrives.”
“I’m so glad to hear it! Thomas, I’m so proud of you.”

They stopped by The Gnome’s Arms Tavern, but Simon wasn’t in. His wife, Sara, was there, and she had news for Thomas.

“There is a traveling art gallery set to arrive tomorrow,” she told him. “Please bring your best paintings. The cart will be set up here next to the tavern. I do hope we will see you.”
“I’ll be sure to be there!” he told her.

Later they prepared the cottage for the baby’s arrival, and the arrival of Kimberly’s father for dinner. Thomas tried to get Kimberly to sit down, but she was bustling about.

“Oh, I’m fine,” she assured him. “I’m feeling wonderful now that the nausea has passed.”

Kimberly went to find some food in the larder and almost tripped over Hank. She picked him up and he flapped his wings and clucked at her.
“Dear Hank,” she said, hugging him, “I wouldn’t dream of cooking you.”

“We’ll have some bread and cheese.” She got it, and set it on the table.
Her father arrived then and she let him in.

They showed him the small cottage. Small as it was, it was very homey, and Benjamin seemed pleased.

Kimberly showed him her lute and the new crib for the baby.

And then they sat down to eat together.

Benjamin noticed how well Thomas and Kimberly got on together and some small fear in his chest was relived. It seemed his daughter really was in good hands.

Notes:
Spoiler
From google:
"By the ninth century, many knights and nobles held estates (fiefs) granted by greater lords in return for military and other service. This feudal system (from the medieval Latin feodum or feudum, fee or fief) enabled a cash-poor but land-rich lord to support a military force."
I wanted to move the family back to Henford-on-Bagley so they wouldn't have to keep traveling to Windenburg and since Richard is a knight this seemed to make sense. So they live in the Bramblewood now and I moved Kimberly's father to a blacksmith shop in Finchwick.
Kimberly doesn't look very pregnant and I think it's because she's a teen and teens aren't really supposed to be pregnant. Not really sure.
