Ultimate Decades Challenge - Day 32 - Year 1307 - Updated Nov. 17

Although Kimberly was doing much better, times were still hard. She woke up early, and it was hard waking up alone, especially when today was...her birthday.

She decided to make a cake this time, for her and Emma, since she wasn't in a good state when Emma's birthday had come around. She made a sponge cake and Emma helped...kind of.

She blew out her candles and aged up. (I gave her the art lover trait)

They all had cake together. Emma ate hers on the floor.

Then it was time for Benjamin to leave. They all went to Finchwick and said goodbye to him at his shop. It was raining again. It seemed to rain a lot these days.

Because of the rain she couldn't get groceries from Kim, but she did stop in the Tavern. She found out that Sara and Simon were expecting a baby!

Later, Caitlin came by to visit and see how Kimberly was doing. She must have known that Benjamin was going home today.

Caitlin was doing better as well. She had thrown herself into her work and caring for her grandchildren. They were her pride and joy.

Kimberly was also keeping up with her work. She wanted to write songs and sing. If she could become the apprentice of a bard she could start out that way. Caitlin told her that Emma was welcome to come to the Sherwood farm during the days to play with Maren and David. That way Kimberly could go into town and look for an apprenticeship.

The next day groceries arrived to their door! How nice of Kim to send someone by with the things she needed! She was sure to thank her when she saw her at church that morning.

It was David's birthday and so Kimberly and Emma went to the Sherwood farm to celebrate. Kimberly helped Anna make a cake for the occasion.

Caitlin was working hard in the garden.

Poor Maren was still so shy.

But after some coaxing they became fast friends.

David aged up to be a fussy toddler. He wasn't sure about Emma and Maren.

Suddenly, things didn't seem to be going so well.

Later, Caitlin came over again to tell Kimberly that Richard knew of a bardess in town looking for an apprentice. She was happy to watch Emma while Kimberly worked. Kimberly was very excited.

She practiced her singing in preparation for her new work.

While she was singing, a fox snuck in and...killed poor Hank.

The naughty thing then started to make its way upstairs, but Kimberly shooed it away.

Emma was very upset about Hank.

That night Kimberly read Emma to sleep, hopeful about her apprenticeship. She was determined to make a good life for Emma.

Lady Goth was puzzling over the whereabouts of the king's daughter.

"Mirror, mirror, on the wall
Can't you see the girl at all?"

Some magic shields her from my eyes."

"It must be the magic from the flower in her veins. It must be protecting her," Lady Goth guessed. "Never mind, my huntsmen will find her eventually."

"More importantly, mirror on the wall,
Who in this land is fairest of all?"

"You, my lady, are fairest of all."

"Good," she replied. "That shall do then...for now."

She went down to her dungeon where her magic cauldron was hidden. There she experimented.

"These ingredients must work..."

"These potions will no longer suffice. My flowers have run out and these will only stall my aging...I must find a way to turn back the clock, or I will not be the fairest in this land forever...and I will never be queen."

Hopefully that wasn't too cheesy. :D So if you haven't guessed it already, one of the fairy tales I had in mind was Snow White (with Raven being Snow White). Lady Goth is the evil step mother of course, but she's also after Camilla...perhaps we shall find out why later.

I think I may try to do a Medieval Disney Princess challenge, either on the side, or combined with this challenge. For now, Raven's and Camilla's (and Emma's???) stories will coincide, but I'll figure out what to do with Raven's story afterward.

I changed Kimberly's look a little. I decided she should have some sort of head covering, as that was pretty standard for women in the middle ages. There were female bards, though I'm sure they weren't as common as male bards. I had thought maybe Kimberly could sing in church, but choirs were only men and boys back then so it made more sense to get her an apprenticeship.
