I like the changes to the house!

I was wondering, the knight that told them about the money, how was he dressed as a knight? Did he just so happen to be wearing a knight's helmet or are all/most of the npcs dressed in medieval outfits?

If you want to use any of the modern careers, such as the painter career you mentioned, you can actually change their work outfit using cheats.
The cheat is: sims.modify_career_outfit_in_cas
I think you have to use it every time they get promoted, though.
