Welcome back to my little love story. After a two year hiatus Danielle, Londyn, and friends are back. If you're new to the story or just need a refresher the original thread is here...Under The Tartosan Sun. Fair warning that thread is long (46 chapters and 40 pages on Vanilla) and a bit of a mess. The early chapters are fun just to see how I've grown as a writer and how my writing style has evolved. The later chapters are the relevent ones for the story now. This new thread picks up the story less than week after the events in Chapter 46.
I hope you enjoy, and thank you for coming along for the journey ❤️
Two of my most beloved sims. This story started with Danielle Chabert. She grew up in Willow Creek, on the same block as her best friends Liberty Lee and Summer Holiday. She always dreamed of being a writer. Eventually she narrowed her focus down to being a romance novelist. After earning her literature degree from Foxbury Institute she returned home to Willow Creek. Even though she landed a book deal, success seemed just out of reach. She felt she needed a spark. Tartosa is famed for its romantic atmosphere, so Danielle picked up and moved. She found her muse and success soon followed. She found even more, the love of her life, Londyn.
Londyn grew up in Sulani. Like Danielle she knew from an early age what she wanted to be. Her passion has always acting and she dedicated herself to it. Taking classes and acting in school plays. Eventually she made her way to Del Sol Valley where she attended the Judith Ward Acting School where she graduated with honors, and studied with the legend herself. She found herself in Tartosa for a publicity shoot. While she was there she found the soulmate she’d spent her life searching for, always believing one day they would cross paths and it would be love at first sight. She wasn’t wrong.
Matteo and Liberty Rossi:
Liberty always had a fascination with computers and video games. She started out dreaming of following in her father into video game design. By the time she got to high school she also developed an interest in psychology. She pursued a double major at Foxbury Institute earning distinguished degrees in both computer science and psychology. As she worked her way through University she popped up on the radar of the S.I.M.S. Intelligence Agency. Liberty’s life took a huge turn on a trip to visit her friend in Tartosa. While she was there Danielle introduced her to the man who would become the love of her life, Matteo Rossi. Fate turned in Liberty’s favor as she was able to transfer to a S.I.M.S. International field office nearby. Now she’s training to take over as the head of that office.
The Rossi family has lived in Tartosa for generations. They’ve long been considered one of the first family’s of the regions famous nectar industry. Matteo grew up with a love of football and cooking. When his dreams of success on the football pitch vanished he turned to his culinary passion. That too almost went down in flames as one of his friends at the time led him down a dark path as a party boy. Matteo was begin pulling himself back up, but once he found Liberty his life found purpose and he found someone to be his rock. Since falling in love with Liberty, Matteo’s professional and personal life has taken off. He’s considered among the best chefs in a part of the world that boasts one of the truly great culinary traditions.
Summer Holiday and Darian LaRue:
Summer grew up in family full of cooks. Willow Creek is famous for its sinfully delicious rustic, French inspired cuisine and jazz music. Everyone on her mother’s side of the family is involved in the culinary arts in some way. So it was only natural she developed the same passion they did. She built an enviable reputation for her culinary prowess. Danielle seen the potential for her friend to blossom further in the Tartosan food scene, eventually luring her to Tartosa as well. Again Danielle worked her matchmaking magic and introduced Summer to the love of her life, Darian. Summer quickly gained notoriety on the Tartosan culinary scene, but she’s on a path leading to worldwide fame as well.
Darian has been a techie since he was a boy. He too grew up in Willow Creek, just blocks away from the girls, but none of them ever met until the finally reached Tartosa. Darian and his college buddies started a web show that saw them doing all sorts of crazy stunts. Not being much for those kinds of things Darian quickly found his niche as the group’s behind the scenes tech guru. He handled the filming, production, and editing. But the time the guys graduated the show was a huge success. He cashed out his part and set off to travel around the world for a couple years before he decided on his next gig. That was the plan at least when he arrived in first destination, Tartosa. I chance encounter with Danielle soon led to an introduction to Summer, and the rest as they say is history. No longer interested in traveling the world Darian knows where his future lies, at Summer’s side.
Mimi Eleganza/The Lady Mimi Eleganza:
Mimi was born in Oasis Springs to Geoffrey and Nancy Landgraab. At the time she was Johnny Landgraab, but the role the world assigned her at birth didn’t fit. Mimi knew it from an early age and was vocal about who she is. That caused big trouble between her, Nancy and younger brother Malcom. They made Mimi’s life extremely difficult. But Mimi had an ally, her dad Geoffrey. Growing up trans Mimi found refuge in the world of drag and kept herself sane by dreaming of someday making her living on stage. Her real goal was to transition and live as her true self, but in the meantime drag kept her going. While starting out as a young drag artist she answered an ad for a roommate that led to a friendship with Londyn Huntley and Venessa Jeong. Their careers, and personal lives, have kept them busy and living in different parts of the world. Still their bonds of friendship have endured. Even though Mimi has found fame and fortune her professional life is at a crossroads. Which path will she choose?
Allegra Rossi:
Matteo’s younger sister. Feisty, fiery, and sassy are words often used to describe her. She developed a love of singing at an early age. Gifted with a beautiful voice she found her way into the opera. While she dreams of someday singing with the Tartosa Opera Company, she currently lives in Windenburg and sings for the local opera company there. She quickly bonded with sister-in-law Liberty by sharing stories of Matteo growing up. She loves her brother dearly, that’s why she’s quick to let him have it, usually in their native tongue*, if he gets out of line.
*I will occasionally sprinkle in a few words in Italian. When I do it's just one or two words. It adds a little authenticity to the story, and especially to the Rossi siblings since they are native Tartosans.
The breeze from the sea wafted over the coast bringing a pleasant saltiness that mingled beautifully with the ever-present scent of bergamot, jasmine, and lavender. To the women of the sisterhood, it was the aroma of home. As they settled down to talk there was one burning question they were all dying to know the answer to.
“Alright girl, spill it” Londyn asked, her words practically vibrating with the excited energy they were all feeling, “How was your date with Venessa?”
“It wasn’t really a date” Allegra said, playfully dragging out the suspense. “All we did was have some drinks, dance, and mostly talk.”
“Sounds like a date to me” Danielle said. “Come on, give us the details. Start with the juicy ones and then keep going!”
“She’s really sweet. She’s so down-to-earth. Oh God, she’s so funny! She’s just like the characters in her movies.” Allegra gasped, “It was one of the best nights of my life!”
Liberty smiled playfully. “That was some good night kiss she gave you. Honestly it was more like a good morning kiss.”
Allegra began to blush as that moment in front of the hotel replayed in her mind. “Oh my God! What a kiss! You saw that?” She turned to see Liberty smiling and nodding.
Liberty side-eyed Allegra. “Matteo and I saw the whole thing." To the group she said, "We were having coffee in the hotel lobby when Venessa dropped her off.” She turned back to Allegra, “I’m surprised you didn’t see us. We were sitting right in the window."
Allegra began to blush harder. “Well, I was a bit distracted.” The group melted into laughter.
It had been three days since they had arrived back in Tartosa, but the memory of that night was still as vivid in Allegra’s mind as if she was still living in the moment. She felt goosebumps as her memory conjured the thrill of a simple brush of Venessa’s hand against hers or a look that lingered a heartbeat or two. She’d gone to the Accolades as Danielle and Londyn’s guest to experience the glamour and the magic that she’d only ever seen on tv from half way around the world. Somehow she found herself unexpectedly swept off her feet by an amazingly beautiful woman who also happened to be a movie star. They only met that night at the show, but the connection felt so real, so electric, so intense. Allegra was sure Venessa felt it too. The memory of it thrilled her.
Allegra was enjoying reliving those memories. Now that she’d given her friends what they wanted, it was time to reveal her little surprise. “I’ve been keeping a secret from you. The real reason I’m in Tartosa is I have an audition with the Campagnia Lirica Tartosa.”
“With the what?” Summer said.
“Campagnia Lirica Tartosa. That is the formal name for the Tartosa Opera Company.” After the little language lesson Allegra said, “This is something I’ve dreamed of since I was a teenager. Singing for the famous Tartosa opera would be a dream come true. I'll never be the diva. I don't have the voice for it and I quite like the parts I play.”
"Are you kidding, you have a beautiful singing voice" Danielle said. "You'd be great."
"Grazie, but I'm not a true soprano, I'm a mezzo-soprano." Allegra explained how that vocal style, for her, was a blessing. As much as she loved the opera, if you got right to the heart of it, singing and performing was in her soul. Her affinity for the opera came from her mom and how they bonded over it. "I started much later than most training for this. With that late start I'm just grateful to even have the career I do. With my voice my roles are more diverse which is much more fun. The soprano gets the glory, but we get to have more fun."
They sat and talked soaking up the sun. Allegra mentioned if she passed the audition she was going to start looking for an apartment in the Bellacorde section of town. There were several nice places not far from the opera house. She hadn’t told Venessa about the audition yet. She wasn't sure why she'd held it back. She'd kept it a secret from the sisterhood because she wanted to surprise them. With Venessa it was different, she wasn't a part of the sisterhood, yet. Venessa was currently tied up in production on her latest movie and for now their relationship was texts and nightly video chats. Those chats weren’t the same as being there, but it was the best they had. Allegra kept pushing the thoughts down, but she knew eventually they would have to deal with the distance between them if this relationship was going anywhere. If she got this new job with the Tartosa opera it would add another layer of complexity to their future together. Or would it? There was only one way to know, so why had she been reluctant to say anything?
The ladies began to notice the breeze had switched directions. It was coming from the adjacent Porto Luminoso district. Delightful aromas from the cluster of trattorias and ristoranti that ringed the piazza made their way up to the Rossi’s patio, serving as a reminder that it was time for lunch. Before Matteo left to go watch his beloved FC Tartosa with Darian, he’d prepared a light, delicious meal for the ladies. He left them Caprese salad and his lovely tomato tortellini soup which he’d learned from nonna Vitoria. Liberty finished it off with some fresh peach Bellinis he had lovingly taught her to make.
Liberty marveled at her good fortune to be swept off her feet by a man who not only loved to cook, but was practically an artist in the kitchen. To her he was a culinary Michelangelo. Liberty’s mind drifted to other areas in which Matteo was just as artistic and she felt the blush rise in her cheeks.
————————————————————————————————
That evening Londyn slipped into her pajamas, settled on the sofa, and opened the package she’d received in the mail earlier. It was two more rough drafts of scripts that her agent thought she’d be interested in. She had reached that point in her career where studios and directors were beginning to come to her, or more accurately Melissa, her agent, to feel out her interest in roles or to pitch ideas. The script she was reading currently wasn’t particularly noteworthy, but the lead character’s story, a single mom fighting to regain custody of her child made her think. Danielle had showered and slipped into pajamas as well and now she snuggled up. They kissed and then Londyn asked, “Have you given any thought lately to us starting a family?”
The question caught Danielle off guard. After a moment she said, “Not a lot. Why? What brought that up?”
“Oh, it’s this script. I don’t know why but it got me thinking. It’s about a mom...”
“Thinking of researching the role?” Danielle playfully tried to tickle Londyn's belly.
“Haha funny girl!” Londyn set the script on the coffee table, then leaned back and ran her fingers through Danielle’s hair for a moment. “No, it made me think is all. I know we’ve talked a little about starting a family, but I feel like maybe it’s time those talks got a little more serious.”
“Are you ready to start a family?”
“No…”, Londyn thought for a moment, “…but, I feel like we should be talking more about it.”
“Why the hesitation?”
“I’m still not, like, one-hundred percent sure the time is right” Londyn said. “We haven’t even really discussed our options. Should we adopt or go for IVF. If we did IVF, who’s going to carry the pregnancy. There's so much we need to discuss.”
“Your right, there is a lot to sort out.” Danielle sat silently for a moment. “This all really caught me by surprise. To be honest I haven’t given it much thought beyond knowing I want to be a mom at some point."
"My reaction to that script caught me by surprise too. Once those thoughts got into my head I couldn't stop them."
"Well, I feel like we’re in a great place in our lives, personally and professionally. Maybe it is time. Maybe not. Either way I’m ready to have these discussions, but maybe not tonight. I need to sort out my thoughts. And I'm guessing you do too” Londyn nodded. They snuggled in tighter, content to move the conversation on to other subjects for now. It was just nice to be home. To shut the rest of the world out, cuddle up with each other, enjoy the familiar, comforting scent of each other's perfume and the reassuring warmth of their touch. Londyn leaned in for a kiss. Just as their lips met Danielle’s phone alerted her to an incoming text. The tone was Jasmine’s.
Jasmine: “Hello Danielle. Hope I’m not interrupting. I know it’s getting late there. I’ll be quick. How would you and Londyn feel about coming to San Myshuno next week?”
“Hey Jasmine! You’re not interrupting at all, and we’re certainly curious.”
Looking over Danielle’s shoulder Londyn said, “She's not? Have I ever told you what a pretty little liar you are?” Danielle burst out laughing.
"Silly, stop it. Let me see what Jasmine wants. Then I'm all yours."
Jasmine: “Your latest book is generating serious buzz. Good Morning San My wants to have you on to talk about it. Interested?”
“Ooo, Good Morning San My! Baby I’m so happy for you! This is huge!” Londyn was beaming, nearly as much as Danielle was.
Jasmine: “Before you answer let me sweeten the pot. Since you’ll already be in town, I have two tickets to opening night of San Myshuno Fashion Week. Should I book you on Good Morning San My?”
“Let me think…YES!!!!!! 😍😍😍”
Jasmine: “I thought so. The tickets are my little way of saying thank you for being my best client. See you then.”
“Thank you Jasmine. You’re the best!”
“Tickets to San Myshuno Fashion Week! Her little way of saying thank you?” Londyn grabbed her phone. “Babe, forward that to me. I want to send that to Mel so she can see how I'd like to be thanked.”
Beautiful chapter! Love seeing the friends all chatting and teasing each other with that Tartosan backdrop! Nice that Danielle and Londyn are starting to discuss a family ❤️It will be fun to see that develop! 🙂And their home is just gorgeous!
Just like old times. Except for Allegra and Vennessa of course. Always exciting to see a new relationship develop. Fingers crossed that Danielle and Londyn continue to find success in their careers.
They'd be wonderful parents. But only if it's the right time for both.
So good to see all these lovely ladies again ☺️ Hard to believe it's been two years 😵💫
Love that is picked up where it left off. Really wanted to see where it went with Allegra and Venessa, glad they had a fantastic date together. Ofc she didn't see Liberty and Mateo, her focus was on one person 🥰 So sweet to see Londyn and Danielle talking about a family starting a family🥰
Hey, I am so glad to see your story again. I love your descriptions, especially how you caught the wind and the scent of the flora around. Nicely done. You're also doing a great job at rounding out your characters, too. I look forward to the next chapter!
I’m not surprised that you are excited to get back to these sims. They are your babies and you have lived with them for a while! It was wonderful to see them together again. Teasing, loving and supporting each other. Interesting that Londyn and Danielle are talking about expanding their family. I can’t wait to see what comes up next!
“We’re live in 5…4…3…” the cameraman said as he simultaneously counted down by hand. He went mute as he reached two, and finished the countdown by hand. He pointed to the set. Danielle had been replaying Londyn’s words. “You’re a writer. Your world revolves around words. That’s all an interview is, words. Baby, you’re going to be awesome!”
“Welcome back for the second hour of Good Morning San My! We’re starting it with another in our series, ‘Ones To Know’. Our guest this morning is the up and coming author of the San Myshuno Times bestseller ‘More of You”, Danielle Huntley. Welcome Danielle.”
“Thank you for having me on Karlee. It’s such a thrill to be here.” Once she focused on Karlee and the words began flowing Danielle found her calm center. The cameras melted into the background.
Everything was going just as she’d expected. Softball questions which didn’t need deep answers, though there was usually one spot in these interviews where the subject could offer some insight into themselves or their work. Danielle got her chance.
“What's something you feel really made a big difference for you as a writer?”
“Finding an agent and a publisher who believed in me and the stories I want to tell. They allowed me the freedom to write my stories in a way that I can pull from my own experiences and those closest to me."
"Being gay myself it’s more authentic for me to write from that perspective. Regardless of orientation, the themes in my books are universal. Love is love. That authenticity of lived experience shows in my work and readers connect with that.”
A couple more easy questions and the producer signaled to wrap it up. Danielle found herself looking forward to doing this again. It wasn’t as scary as she thought it might be. “I see our time is almost up. I want to thank Danielle for coming in. It’s been an absolute pleasure. I hope we’ll see you again soon. Danielle Huntley.”
The stage manager escorted Danielle back to the green room. Londyn was ready with a hug and a couple bottles of water. She knew just how hot studio lights were. Danielle gratefully took a long drink and fished her phone out of her purse. Jasmine had already texted her congratulations. She’d been watching the interview in her office. With that done the day was theirs. The Fashion Week gala was the following evening. They planned to go see the city, followed by dinner that night at one of San Myshuno’s trendy eateries.
San Myshuno’s Spice District had been undergoing a renaissance in recent years. The old industrial buildings were being revitalized and repurposed for a variety of uses, including some of the city’s most trendy eateries. Verve was one of the trendiest. It was located along the waterfront in an old warehouse and attracted a diverse crowd, including San My’s A-listers.
Verve included a small bar in the front of the house. It was a perfect spot to hang out and grab a glass of wine, an artisan mixed drink, or try one of the numerous craft beers on tap while waiting for a table. Danielle and Londyn were perched at the bar when a leggy blonde passed the window. As she stepped on the deck leading to the front door she glanced in and could hardly believe her eyes.
She hurried inside as fast her stilettos would allow and made her way into the bar. She wanted to get better look at the woman in the black dress. She was fairly sure it was her old friend. As she drew closer she heard the her speak to the blonde beside her, the voice was unmistakable. "Londyn Huntley! Oh my God girl get over here and gimme a hug"
Londyn turned, surprise written on her face. Just like the other woman, Londyn instantly recognized the voice. "Mimi! Get outta here!" Londyn slid off her stool and wrapped Mimi in a hug. She stepped back to take in the sight of her friend. It had been three years since they'd seen each other. "Let me get a look at you!!! Girl, that look is fire!" Londyn quickly handled introductions.
"Are you in town performing?"
"Sort of. I do perform here, but San My is also home. It's a long story." Mimi gasped, "Look, my date stood me up at the last minute. Why don't you and Danielle join me. I'd really love the company. And I did not spend three hours getting ready just to throw it all away because of a man. We can do a little catching up."
Londyn looked at Danielle to gauge her interest. They had planned this evening as a couple's night out. “Sounds like fun!” Danielle beamed “Londyn’s told me so much about you. I’m dying to hear more.”
“Oh good! It’s a date then. I come here a lot so I can get us a table quick. Wait here." She made her way over to the host station. True to her word, she scored a table for them in Verve's VIP dining room. Mimi's alter ego, the Lady Mimi Eleganza, had popped up on Londyn's social media feed now and then. Not enough to keep up with Mimi herself, but enough to paint a picture of success in Londyn's mind. Clearly Mimi was doing better than Londyn could have ever imagined.
As soon as they were seated and the staff went to work. They greeted her warmly and she returned the favor, calling each by name. Mimi registered Londyn's expression when each of them greeted Mimi as Miss Osteer. One had even called her Paige. Seeing the look Mimi smiled and gave a subtle wave of her hand.
When they had a moment of privacy Londyn pounced. "Paige Osteer? Honey, spill the tea! It's like a whole new you. And..." Londyn hesitated, the next comment was delicate, verging on deeply personal, she wanted to handle it respectfully. "When you hugged me, it felt...different. More..."
Mimi smiled, "...real?" she said finishing Londyn's thought. Her nod said Mimi had it right. They had been roommates when Mimi had been starting out as a drag artist. Londyn and Venessa had been Mimi's style council. With Mimi being a serial hugger, they had embraced her while she was in character. Foam padding and silicone does wonders but it doesn't compare to the real thing. “Well it is in a way. It all happened after I caused my parents divorce.” She smiled and waited for Londyn’s reaction.
“Wait, you did what? How!?” Londyn asked, genuinely surprised. Danielle’s face mirroring her surprise. This little change of plans was shaping up to be full of surprises.
“Oh you know, I just told my family I was going ahead with my transition. Things kind of went sideways after I dropped that juicy little bombshell.”
“So, what, you're like fully transitioned?” Londyn said excitedly. "Don't get me wrong. I'm so happy for you. You never once looked comfortable trying to be Johnny. That was so not you."
“Thank you hun. I still have a couple procedures left. But everything in this dress, is all me! I’ve been living full time for almost three years. A week from tomorrow will be my third anniversary. Best decision I ever made.”
t hadn’t been easy, but she wouldn’t have done anything differently. She knew the path to happiness meant being her true self. Mimi took a moment to compose herself. “Their marriage was a lost cause anyway. Me saying I was going through with transitioning was the coup de grace. Nancy blamed my dad for me being...me. I didn’t have to make my announcement in front of her, but she would’ve found out anyway. And it wouldn’t have changed a single thing. A couple months later my dad filed for divorce and moved out. He went back to being Geoffrey Osteer. I'm now Mimi Paige Osteer. One time he told me Paige was one of the names they'd picked out for me. It was his choice, not Nancy's. She hated it. I love him to death so it was an easy decision. I still use Mimi Eleganza for my career and my public persona. I use Paige Osteer when I want step away from the spotlight and simply blend in.”
“Paige is a lovely name. And it’s awesome your dad was the one who stood by you.” Danielle said. “Too many parents don't.”
“He’s a unicorn. He’s living in Cuidad Enamorada now with his girlfriend Maria. I really like her and they seem to be in love. Like genuinely in love. His karmic reward for being such a wonderful, loving dad.”
Their meals soon arrived. The food at Verve was billed as elevated tapas, with a twist. Between bites, and quizzical looks at the food, Mimi explained how she arrived in San Myshuno.
Her decision to transition had completely wrecked her already fractured relationship with her mom, Nancy. The divorce made things extremely toxic between the two. Mimi's drag mom, Gideon, had contacts in the San Myshuno drag scene. In no time Gideon helped her land a headline gig at local club called Illusions. "San Myshuno gave me time, space, and freedom to focus on myself and my career. The fact I have an entire continent between me and Nancy is icing on the cake."
"Before I knew it I was madly in love with San My. The first winter was murder. I never knew it could be so cold. Now I have a closet full of cute, comfy sweaters so I cope."
"Have you been back to Del Sol Valley at all?" Londyn asked.
"Once or twice a year. I go back for a couple days. I do a handful of shows at The Orchid. It will always have a special place in my heart. Other than that, the city is part of my past. Enough about me sweetie, I wanna hear about you and Danielle. How did you wind up half way around the world in Tartosa?"
"You remember how I always told you and Nessa, I'd find the one I was destined to be with forever?" Mimi nodded. "I was in Tartosa for a shoot, I went out for a drink one evening, and this angel walked in. I knew the instant I laid eyes on her, she was the one."
"I'd moved there a few months earlier" Danielle said. "Being a romance novelist I couldn't think of a better place to find my muse. I found a lot more than that."
"You should come visit! I remember your taste in men. Hun, you'd die of terminal happiness. I may be a lesbian but I can still appreciate a good looking man."
"Ooo, take me with you!"
"I was thinking about a vacation trip to somewhere exotic after I finish my transition. A little treat for myself. Tartosa sounds so romantic." Mimi pictured her future post-transition self, lounging in a bikini on the Tartosan coast. That day couldn't come soon enough.
The rest of the evening passed in a sea of conversation, catching up and reconnecting, and building a new friendship. It was impossible to cover three years in a single night but they did their best. At one point Londyn got out her phone and dialed Venessa. Londyn put the phone up so she could see and talk to Mimi. Mimi couldn't hold back any longer, the tears of joy came. Venessa was back in Del Sol relaxing after another long day on set, but she stayed on the line with them. It was like old times in the little bungalow all over again in spite of the miles between them.
As the clock went well past midnight they began to wrap up the evening. As they walked out, they stopped to say their goodbyes.
"One of the biggest regrets in my life was losing touch with you and Venessa. I hope we never do that again."
"I don't feel like tonight was an accident. I think our paths crossed for a reason. I can't wait to see what it might be!"
