In another thread on a Romance Pack, I mentioned Hair Salons and Concert Venues. To sum up:
Instead of just "Hair Salon" I'd like to see a full "Beauty Salon" lot type that could incorporate as many or as few different types of "beauty" things to interact with. I can imagine "Cosmetologist" could be a great new career with this. With Get Famous we have hair and makeup interactions for actors, so a Hair/Beauty Salon shouldn't be such a hard thing to build upon as its own lot type. Could either go into CAS or have it be randomized like the "try on outfits" interaction with closets. Would be a great way to temporarily add an update to an outfit in CAS without it being a permanent addition to the list of outfits for your Sim.
If they ever add nail polish to the game (not just mods), then this would be a great thing to add to such a lot as well, though it would require new animations and assets for the pedicure chairs, work tables for nail technicians, UV table lamps, etc.
The existing massage tables and chairs from Spa Day would also be a great existing feature to include in a Beauty Salon. Incense is also already in the game via City Living.
For Concert Venues, my biggest annoyance since City Living (or was it Get Together? One of those two) are the rabbit hole concerts that your Sims gets invited to early in the day for later in the evening. I'd love to have *actual* venues to go to--not just he impromptu parties that appear in Get Together. There's a lot that could be done here since the addition of Get Famous. For example:
We already have the assets for a rock n' roll, metal, or otherwise popular music-themed venue with Get Together. Get Famous brings us the stage for bands to play on and the green screen background as well. The outdoor movie screen from Movie Hangout could be redesigned to act as a jumbotron (this could also be used in future sports-related packs.) The effects from the DJ booths could be added to the stage itself or a new effects item that doesn't necessarily play music. I'm including moodlets here as well. Such a concert venue would work well either indoors or outdoors.
We have a lot of assets for a more "classical" concert venue, and would just need a dedicated lot to use them. Something that would draw Sims to sit and watch and act as an actual audience. Instead of flashy effects and such, there'd need to be a theatre curtain, and maybe an Master of Ceremonies to introduce the act(s). For "classical" style, I'm thinking the instruments that aren't the electric guitars, the microphone for comedy routines and singing. Think Hard Rock vs. Carnegie Hall, here. Get Famous also brings us acting, so plays could also be a thing--especially since screenwriting is also a thing (they'd need to be un-filmed, so that may take some animation redesign, but still.)
Now both types of concert venues would be great to have, but would be even better with the addition of new instruments and the ability to form bands or ensembles. For the "popular" music instruments, we already have electric guitars, electric keyboards, and microphones, but we could also really use a drum set--especially one that has the option to play both rock and jazz. A bass guitar would also be great, as well as a synthesizer. For the "classical" music instruments, we have the piano, violin, and acoustic guitar, but I'd love to see more added to fill out an ensemble. Cellos, a Double-Bass for jazz especially, woodwinds like the Sax, flute, and clarinet, brass like the horns, trombone, or euphonium (I'd leave the Sousaphone for a sports or University pack), percussion like timpani or xylophone. You get the idea. What would make all of these more realistic would be an ability to form a band or ensemble like forming a club, but with practices as club requirements and skill level increases too. Duets between piano and any of the instruments would also be awesome since piano is the universal accompaniment for solo performers.
Classical singing should be added to the singing skill. Seriously. I was classically trained in voice irl and it bugs me to no end that the closest we get is folk songs. How about some arias? And for the love of all that's holy, PLEASE don't animate classical singing the stereotypical way seen in movies with large men and women placing a hand on their chest, closing their eyes (or looking up to the ceiling), and moving around affectedly. Professional vocalists Do. Not. Do. That. It's not even a funny stereotype anymore, just an annoying one. Anyway, getting off my soapbox now. Singers, either popular or classical, should absolutely have new animations and songs to learn for stage venues. Popular singers could be lead vocalists with bands. Classical singers could be guest vocalists with ensembles. Heaven forbid we actually have choirs, but that would be a whole other mechanic I'm not even going to ask for. Having a conductor would also be a cool new addition, since directors are in Get Famous (I think?) but irl those are mostly for Big Bands and Orchestras, not ensembles. Still, it would bring a new level of realism to such a venue--and the MC I mentioned earlier could double as the conductor, as that happens irl a lot, too.
I'd love for these to be options for our Sims to do, but I'd also love the option of going to a concert venue to see NPC bands/ensembles/entertainers. We have the reputation system with Get Famous, so indie bands could be a thing as well as world-famous ones. Individual musicians/comedians/etc could also have separate followings. The ability to hire a live band or ensemble for events (especially if Ballroom dancing is added) would be a great alternative to using a DJ booth or the radio.
Now, if new instruments are added, and/or bands and ensembles become a thing, obviously new music to learn would also be a necessity. What I'd love to see is music from well-known bands and ensembles being played on the radio (if you actually play with the sound on--I keep my game silent for reasons) and possibly a way for Sims to discover new bands via the radio.
Such venues would be great additions to the game in general, but would especially be great with an Amusement Park pack, Romance Pack, or even University Pack.
