I think that is off. I think it more like more people are waiting until later to get married (probably because stable careers and all that are getting harder to find for one thing) and in less of a rush to get married young or jump into marriage too soon.
With sims, that is less of something to worry about and everyone can have their dream wedding and all that with whatever sim that they want.
