I think the jobs work best when there is a useful tool or interaction worth keeping, if it wasn't for the tranquilising handshake ability in the villain career (very handy to shut up stalkers that keep getting to necky) I tend to ditch the job aspect completely once reaching their end points - why ruin their lives.
If there was a bit where you could actually help them do their job and interact with their co-workers that would be great - but as it stands, the only benefit I see is that they disappear off screen for a bit accompanied by an occasional pop up box with about 5 different questions on rotation. I'd rather have them at home painting a picture or mucking about with some clay.
I have a couple of sims who gave up their jobs and generally doss about. The way I see it, they served their time grafting away to completing their career choice in order to get me that virtual gaming pad thing and fancy piano, so it's the least I can do for them so they don't have to teleport of existence for a few hours.
Once they have earned a lot of money there seems very little point wasting their time sending them to work when all that is happening is a funds increase especially if you have bought everything and have a well stocked garden produce based fridge. So unless the job comes with an essential gimmick I find the job bits a bit pointless now - fine when you start out, but once you've done them all it falls a bit flat.
