From experience with TS 1, 2 & 3, I didn't expect a lot of content in the TS4 base game - that's what expansions are for - so I wasn't disappointed by missing stuff like dishwashers and pools. And it's very cool that they've added some features in a free update and plan to give us more for free in the future. At first I didn't like the less open world, but I do like how sims can move between them without losing relationships. It's also occurred to me that maybe, just maybe, a tool like TS3's create-a-world might be possible to create our own neighbourhoods within worlds, or even worlds. How cool would that be?
But I am disappointed by the gameplay. It feels like a step backward from TS3. In particular I'm missing:
- story progression: the world around my active household going on as more than filler. So many people have commented on this I don't feel the need to say much. I'm so tired of having to play all the other households just so they have 'normal' lives alongside my sim.
- lifespan manager: the life spans in TS4 are just weird. On normal, my sim had a baby as a young adult and still died way before grandchildren came along. And long is way too long for me. I liked in TS3 to adjust the stages to my play style.
- and, yeah toddlers (they could be annoying, but so cute!). Also, babies are not as much fun and please ditch that basinette and bring back actual baby furniture
- lastly, players really ought to have the option to rename sims on marriage. Have a marriage certificate come up where you can change name(s) or not, whatever you like. I use the cas.fulleditmode cheat to do it now, but why can't it just be part of the game?
I guess in short I'd like a more natural, living world.
And fixes for existing bugs like ordering drinks over and over, and homework left on the desk, and disappearing camping companions. Oh yeah and objects like cakes disappearing when I try to move them.
Ummm, and I'd also like relationships to decay slower, and sims to eat faster, and to get fat slower.
