I hope I can say this in the most polite and civil way I can but can you please stop "updating" the base game over and over again? I can only speak for myself but my game is fine the way it is. I guess some people seem to have problems and that is a shame but I don't see why you have to make these ongoing changes almost every month. Was the original game that broken?
FlamingoKicker The original coding is ageing now and still breaks. The most basic features still break, like Sim interactions and actions. The various platform hardware that the game is played on also changes and the game has to update to keep in line with that hardware. The Gallery needs constant maintenance too. Then there's the free content drops and maintenance to allow the game to incorporate the Marketplace/Moola, even if not all players use those.
Sims have more life as a result of more recent additions to base game functions but they also have more glitches so updates are needed to address that. Also over the years we've had updates to accommodate new content and those patches sometimes disrupted base game features which then needed to be fixed with some bugs still waiting. Infants have had numerous issues, many of which are still being looked at. To add a whole new life stage to the base game, just over 8 years into it's life cycle wasn't smooth sailing.
Since this year hasn't been about patches to prepare the game for new content it's provided the time and opportunity to look at game stability at all levels and fix those things we've been asking for over the years. But players could also disable auto updates and play offline if they so choose. They'd run into a conflict if they wanted to use the Gallery however. But the option is there if you want a bit of respite and you can always catch up with updates at a later date.

The Sims 4 needs regular updates to fix bugs, maintain stability, and support new content. Without updates, the game would break and eventually become unplayable. Complaining about updates is basically complaining that the game is being kept alive. Complaining about base‑game updates is like complaining that you have to feed and take care of your pet — as if letting it die would somehow be better.
List of things they occasionally add with new updates: bug fixes, stability updates, compatibility updates, free diversity content, free gameplay features, quality of life improvements, security updates, and backend maintenance.
