Custom Photos: Upload Screenshots as Photos
Marketing for The Sims 4 has been using custom made photos in trailers for years and years and years. It's time to put up or shut up- stop doing this in marketing, or give it to us as a feature.
As early as The Sims 2 you could put images in a folder and load them up in-game as custom paintings. Now, in 2025, we have the technology, surely, to load images up as custom photos- and even better, save them locally so that they never become corrupted or blacked out again.
Especially now when merely exiting the game without saving a single time destroys all your save file's photos, unless backed up to your library, we need a surefire way to save images FOREVER- and as an added bonus, we could make them with the freedom of full camera movement, and edit them outside the game before importing them.
It would be a complete win/win, except, I guess, for anyone really dedicated to the Photography skill- which I cannot imagine a majority of players are. In-game photography as a game mechanic is a cute idea but we would much rather have versatility, functionality, and most importantly, permanence. Let us import images as photos!
(And stop making fake photos for trailers that imply this is an existing feature!)
Note: While not officially supported, or possible with in-game tools, it is possible to take custom tattoos that you've drawn, extract the images, edit them, replace them, and load them up in-game. Just as a simple example, I think that's proof positive that "import images from outside the game" is a feature it could support. This is also basically what retexture CC is, but I think since this example uses in-game mechanics to put the image in an accessible place where we can find and alter it, it's more impactful and understandable as "proof the game knows how to handle this kind of thing", just as a little extra push for people reading to understand- we have the technology!
