I respect other peoples' opinions about not caring about having vehicles personally..however I don't find the criticisms against those wanting cars is fair. Like sure you may not want it, but does it invalidate other people's opinions, and experiences with cars? Since, Sims is about creating meaningful stories.. a lot of people have a lot of meaningful experiences with cars. Whether it's their first date.. getting your first one.. or working on them. I'm not a big car person, but riding and working on motorcycles is something that means a lot to me. So, it feels off to not to be able to work on it in and ride in a save where I'm supposed to be myself.
It's definitely really jarring since day one on release to just have a sim fade away into dust lol. Even more so there are literal cars in the background driving around further cementing the disconnect of being immersed in this world. Even if we don't get Sims 3 style driving I personally have not seen anyone complain about Sims 1 or Sims 2 cars disappearing off the lot as a problem. And awesome modders like waronkcc have shown us its possible to have something like that again. The only issue is the cars in the mod drive on the sidewalk lol, but I just use the travel-to-lot function. So in possible implementation, they could just travel to the boundaries of the neighborhood and disappear instead of having to have full-on Sims 3 open-world driving.
Philosophically, I prefer having walkable cities with public transport which is a feature culturally I loved about living in Tokyo! However, I realize the disconnect and immersion and potential in adding vehicles. I don't agree at all with the "utility" argument.. if something is meaningful to someone isn't that a valid point in a life simulator fantasy game? I'm very skeptical on the idea that it's not technically possible. It seems more like a design choice considering we have modders who have added cars to a good degree. Not spitefully complaining, but I'm genuinely just am interested in what the Sims Teams' reason is for not adding them yet whether it is technical or design choice.
Final thoughts for this comment.. I remember glancing upon a mod that made other sim worlds have different languages, and I thought that was really fascinating for someone who loves learning about anthropology! Even though my ideal world would be one where we share ease of communication.. and I would want a world that is more walkable and community-based with less pollution the conflict and little details end up being significant and interesting! I know the pack would definitely be lucrative at the very least since whether it is for us or not vehicles are a significant part of peoples' lives and fantasies! Food for thought. 🖤
