I'm sad to see that this issue has immediately been moved to feedback, although extreme tuning like that severely impacts gameplay.
I don't think that the problem I had is a matter of preference, but something that does not work as the feature is described.
Let me cite the EP's store page: "Prolonged negative emotions cause imbalance, and imbalance can lead to Ailments with strange effects."
My Sim skipped the imbalanced state and jumped right to very imbalanced just because he had some fun at his birthday party...

It is very frustrating when they move our topics we meant to be in another category. It is a bit patronizing and upsetting to be passively aggressively told (in action) "it's not the game sweety—it's you".
I mean only recently (like last week?) Lovestrucks' overly sensitive romantic satisfaction dropping was put on the devs' laundry list. How many people where dismissed for the past year+ as "it's not the game sweety—it's you" : /

They probably moved it to Feedback, because it's intended, not a bug. Feedback is not a lesser than, they need feedback.
And! They most certainly need feed back on the Balance and Luck systems, because they're way too intrusive. I like the ideas, but the systems need to be toned down.
My nice retired Sim should not be spending her golden years extinguishing herself.

I'm not sure.
When they say the balance drops by "prolonged negative emotions" then experiencing an extreme positive mood for one second should not cause such an extreme drop and feels very much like a bug.
And even if it's intended like that and they miscommunicated it: if it forces players to deactivate the feature to be able to play, then I would also consider it a bug. And I'm saying that as someone who likes challenges and difficulties in the game. But they have to make sense.
And to be honest, I don't have the impression that anyone at EA is paying a closer look at the feedback forum...

Can't say I disagree with that. I feel like the folks who make the game no longer have any experience playing the game. Do any of the developers still play the game?
It feels like no one's home over at The Sims 4 HQ. No communication. No community participation. I understand. Sort of. Social Media is a black abyss of spitting poison, but they need to find a way to connect to their community. And it's not Discord.

Sadly, this seems the way of it. Things start out on the too much is not enough side of things, and then EA has to tweak it. Hence now we can turn off dust from Bust the Dust and a few other choices.
