More cross-pack recipe ingredient substitutions

In Cottage Living, two of the "rare" treats - the Golden Treat and the Midnight Treat - require Cowberry Jam as an ingredient. Cowberry Jam is, obviously, crafted from Cowberries, making it something of a precious ingredient (since Cowberries can't be easily farmed, relative to other produce). However, if you also own Seasons, the Golden Treat recipe can utilize Honey from the beehive instead - a much easier to acquire ingredient, allowing the player to save their Cowberry Jam for Midnight Treats.

I love this! It's cool! It encourages cross-pack play! And I like that if you have Eco Lifestyle, you can get wax to craft candles from both that pack's Soy plants and from the Seasons bee boxes. (Similar but not exactly the same thing - I love the special occult nectar recipes in Horse Ranch, that use plants from the occults' specific packs, and am sad there's not a new one for fairies; I also like how sheep and goats are an alternative means to get milk/wool if also have Cottage Living installed.)

I... wish more pack-specific crafting systems did this?

It would be cool if some RoM potions and EBN apothecary crafts could use "occult" ingredients from each other's packs and the Vampires and Werewolves game packs, the herbalism ingredients from Outdoor Retreat, the mushrooms and magical milk/eggs from Cottage Living, etc as alternatives.

(I kind of find the RoM potions incorporating plasticky little MySims figurines to be kind of weirdly jarring, in particular, and wish I could use something that feels more mystical instead, like the Wolfsbane that was patched into the base game, the Death Frog from L&D, or the new metals and gemstones from Crystal Creations.)

And it would be nice if there was a way for all of the Herbalism recipes to function outside of Granite Falls - the fact that the majority of the recipes require insects, which can only be found in a world you can't even live in, and that can't be "reproduced" outside of that world (unlike the herbs, or the fish via fish ponds), makes it feel "not worth it" to know and use most of the recipes. I'd love it if I actually had an excuse to make use of Fungal Infusion Fertilizer or Natural Herbicide Oil, but the former requires a Dust Spirit, which is rare and only shows up at night! You can't even breed more of them the way you can frogs! Why would I want to waste such a rare and precious collectible on fertilizer?

...also I think there should be a way to make "mighty plant milk" that actually comes from plants and not cows. Please?

  • Honestly, getting EbN I never got so many Cowberries from Foraging, especially Foraging for Apothecary Ingredients. Plus you can buy them via the Apothecary Table.

But yes, I wish there was more cross-pack synergy too!

I heard that fairies are completely broken in Batuu from someone on reddit and can't fill their needs there, unfortunately.

  • I never have my sim learn the herbalism skill because of that. But with the natural living from the new pack, I'm thinking of having my sim go on vacation in all 3 worlds. The Granite Falls, Batuu, and Selvadorada worlds. I think it may be easier to manage your sim's needs. I do wonder if fairies can go to Batuu, how would they eat?
