Hey DeeDeeDreamer . In base game, "Off-the-Grid" means that you do not have electricity or running water. You have to use candles or lanterns for lighting, and you have to use off-the grid appliances. If you go to build mode and search for objects by function, there's an off-the-grid category that will show you the off the grid objects (e.g. ice box, wood fire stove, off-the-grid sink). Warning: these objects do not function as well as objects connected to an electricity/water source. If you want fresh water, you have to go to a lake or river, click on a fishing sign and pick the "collect water" interaction.
There's an expansion pack called Eco Lifestyle that adds solar panels, water generators and other objects so you can have electricity and water even if you're off the grid.
In Sims 4, you don't use a newspaper to search for a job. You go to the career panel at the bottom of the screen and click the Find a Job button. Hope this helps!
