This is just a theory, but....
This game is running on base code that's over 10 years old, and was likely never designed to be so radically expanded over the years---that's where the problems come in.
And it's also why sims 5 is far overdue. In terms of product life, this game is an ancient relic, an artifact if you will

The fact that this game is 10 years old definitely makes a difference in my opinion. So many changes upon changes upon changes have been added over the years. On top of that is tons of dlc. by now there are so many possible combinations of owning dlc that there are a lot of variables that have to be factored in. Playtesting all set ups is impossible.
I have reached the point where I wonder how much more the game can handle both in new dlc and game updates. The bugs are the reason why I don't have for rent yet.
On a plus, the team does seem to try to solve things on short notice with all the hot fixes. It would be better if they didn't have to of course but I am glad they do try.
