If you have Pets, there is a rumba vacuum cleaner that does it's thing by itself. If you upgrade it you don't even need to clean the trash compartment and your house will be sparkling clean every day. One of those on each floor and you don't need to use the hand vacuums anymore. In my game, one goes and cleans the barn too, because it can access it, but even if it couldn't physically access it, it would still clean there too. 😁
As for the hand held vacuums, I think the dust accumulation also depends on how many sims you have on the lot, with single sims it needs vacuuming every few days or so. With some sims I let them use the hand vacuums, seems more realistic that not everyone has fancy gadgets.
