The Sims™ 4 Music Expansion Pack

Hey, I've seen a lot of music-related topics here but all of them were about bands so I decided to give my idea of something that would be larger than bands and worthy of an expansion pack instead of a game pack, and before you say anything - hear me out.

Music is something that makes our life better, I can't imagine a life without music, all those sounds that were being created for centuries have always been something that people liked. The music industry over the years has gotten so much more attention and is currently one of the highest-paid industries in the world. Making a game pack only about bands would be such a missed opportunity.

For starters, I think that there should be three ways of gameplay: solo, group, or band.
Bands and groups will have the ability to practice together and groups will be able to harmonize.
You can leave a certain group or band and go solo anytime you want.

There should be also a new management menu that would allow us to:

  • manage the members of our group or band
  • see our recognition level with the number of fans
  • change the name of our singer/group/band
  • view all released music and see which place it took on the charts
  • schedule (and view already scheduled) concerts and concert tours
  • display of the current record label with the description of advantages and disadvantages

Besides that, there should be two new traits connected to singing and performing giving a little advantage when singing and performing and three new skills: classical singing, contemporary singing, songwriting, and one hidden skill called performing. Also, a new skill for the new instrument - drums, obviously.

Classical singing is something that allows our Sims to be opera singers, they will be able to practice it by going on paid vocal lessons or by themselves (but this way is less effective and can harm/strain the voice easily). They can go and audition for a job and depending on their classical singing skill, they might be accepted and work in the opera (rabbit hole).

Contemporary singing is right now one of the most popular ways of singing and that is the type of singers that record labels want. Sims can learn contemporary singing the same way as classical singing - by going on paid vocal lessons or by themselves (but this way is less effective and can harm/strain the voice easily). Solo, groups, or bands can record covers of certain songs and then post them on the internet. Depending on their skills and ways of promotion, they will gain recognition, and the bigger their recognition is and the hype over the cover, the bigger the chance a record label will call them and offer them a certain record deal. Another way of getting into a record label would be to record a demo of an original song and wait for the response of a certain record label. Record labels will have two types: Major and Indie.

Major labels will be all about profit and domination in the music market.
+ you will gain a lot more recognition, fame, and money
+ your songs will get higher on the charts (also with a big chance of achieving 1st place)
+ your music will be of very high quality and you will have access to the best recording studios in the new world for free
+ concerts and concert tours expenses will be paid for by your label
- you will have less control over the music (they will tell you what you need to do to complete the requirements included in the contract, for example, release 5 songs in the R&B genre, which also will be finally added)
- they will own all songs that were created by you during the time under that label (if you released a song and you will leave that label you will not be able to sing it at concerts and any money etc.)
- they will take a certain % out of your earnings
- they will schedule concerts and concert tours for you, whenever they want

Indie labels will be more artist-friendly but also will be less important in the music market.
+ you will have full control over your music
+ you will own all your songs
- it will be harder for you to go on top of the charts (but this depends more on recognition and fame levels)
- you will gain less recognition, fame, and money
- all expenses will have to be paid by you

There will be an option to negotiate a major record deal and if the major record label agrees with you (depends on your recognition level and fame), a certain disadvantage will be removed. So for example, if you decided that you want to negotiate control over your music, if successful, you will have control over your music in the major label.

Recording music
You can record music and release it anytime you want, even if you don't have a record deal with a major label but remember that an expensive recording studio will give you higher quality songs but also will be indeed, very expensive.

Performing
You can perform anywhere and anytime you want but you can also schedule a concert or concert tour (even if you don't have a record deal with a major label but this will be very, very expensive). There will be a special menu that will list all available places for you to book, as well as a new venue called stadium (similar to The Sims 3) that will be a big arena in which our global stars will be able to sing and perform. There will be new group dances for groups and singers.

So, in conclusion, in case you don't want to read all of it.

  • There will be a new world, similar to Los Angeles in which you will have new venues: cheap and expensive recording studio, stadium
  • You will be able to go solo, in a group, or a band (bands and groups can practice together, groups can harmonize). You can quit a band/group or go solo whenever you want.
  • You will be able to gain new skills: classical singing, contemporary singing, songwriting, playing on drums, and one hidden skill called performing
  • You will be able to write and then record your own songs in a cheap or expensive recording studio.
  • You will be able to schedule concerts and concert tours for money
  • You will be able to sign a record deal with an indie or a major label (and also negotiate the deal in the major labels)
  • You will gain recognition and fame (with Get Famous)
  • New job that you need to go on an audition first to get it: opera singer
  • New activity: vocal and music lessons where you can practice your skills
  • New radio station: R&B
  • New situation in which singer can strain their voice and won't be able to sing for an estimated period of time

I'm not sure how they will tie this into the performer career in base game but I'd love if the new pack had almost a popstar rabbit hole/live career.

  • Not that I think that you will see this but to combine, fame, hobbies and making the music career track a little more exciting, could you combine sims with different instruments to make a band? Add a drum kit, really and you pretty much have what you need. You can add music production as an extra computer extension like vlogging. Also, you can have band manager as a career and have agencies like you do with acting. Then you can add stage venues where musician sims can go to work with you and rehearse music and choreography then put on a main show to an audience. It can start with small venues like night clubs or lounges, play at weddings, then work your way into sold out stadiums.

    Just some thoughts.

  • Would be in favor of any and all expansions and improvements to music tasks and careers in general. I also would like to see bands that are not necessarily rock bands, but more like high school bands, brass and wind bands, big bands, and classical music symphonies. I'd also suggest that a business management component be included as a new career, such as running the record company or being a music producer, since right now the creative careers are all about performing and not about the other side of those industries. That would be something, for example, that would be nice to see as a small but meaningful expansion to Del Sol Valley: that you could be a movie executive and go to Plumbob Pictures, versus just going as an actor.

  • Hey, so I'm not entirely sure if EA reads these, but I'd love to share an idea I have for an expansion/game pack. I was looking around the internet (as one does) and I noticed that there were some people that were talking about how there isn't a proper singer career and they were upset that the Get Famous expansion pack didn't include this as a career. I thought about it some, and I think making a new pack based around bands would be a pretty neat addition to the game! Here's what I'm thinking this pack could feature:

Your sims could form a band (of up to 8 sims, maybe) and each have different roles in the band. Such as lead vocalist, guitarist, drummer, bassist, keyboardist, etc. There could also be new instruments added, such as bass guitar, keyboard, drums, saxophone, tuba, and electric violin. Of course, that's just scraping the surface of all the different instruments that could be included, but I think this could be a really good idea. Your band could go on tour, play at local concerts, and have group rehearsals. There could also be a recording studio feature where your sims can go to the studio to record their own tracks and publish them.

I'm thinking your band would start off small, as all bands usually do, and you could look on computers to find gigs at local lounges or clubs to start gathering fame. Maybe you could put up ads online for your shows and invite friends to come and watch your band perform. After each performance, you could get a rating like you do during events such as weddings or dinner parties. If this feature would be included, then during the performances there could be objectives to complete such as riffing on a guitar or the vocalists harmonizing a certain number of times.

I was also thinking about including an independent singer career, so not all sims have to be in a band to get the full singer experience. I don't think much should change based on if you choose to be in a band or independent, but each would definitely have their challenges.

This was just a little idea by me that I've been thinking about for a while, and I definitely had fun thinking about all the different possibilities with an add-on like this. I'd love it if someone from EA actually read it and took it into consideration lol

    Have a great day <3

  • oh man i was so wrong i thought there was gonna be a music band expansion pack this year

the only positive thing is we can still brainstorm about that pack👍

we can have some music aspirations like "become succesful band" or something and maybe we can expand the instrument options (including the other packs)

i made a topic based on being a singer, dancing and owning a studio, it can match with this one it can perhaps be merged in 1 pack

but knowing EA it's very unlikely to happen these days so i'm afraid they'll make a seperate pack for this

  • I believe most of us have wished for there to be more instruments in the game, and for more kinds of music to play on instruments. Aside from that, what I personally have been waiting for since FOREVER, is an expansion pack with bands. Drums, guitars, basses, and voices, able to play metal or rock or blues or whatever. It could also be a career and have more moodlets, like artists' block. What do you think? Any chance we can get this to them?

  • I've long thought we lack musical groups. For example, there are still no drums in the game. I want to create unusual groups. And I want to watch others make them. It will be cool.

    Hello Simmers and Dev Team,
A "band" system is one of the most highly requested features missing from The Sims 4. The ability to form a group, play music together, and pursue fame as a collective unit is a huge gap in gameplay, especially when combined with existing packs like Get Together and Get Famous.

This expansion pack idea aims to bring that experience to life in a fully fleshed-out way.

🎸 Core Features: The Sims 4: Rock Star!
This pack would focus on building musical skills, managing a band as a single entity, and performing for an audience.

    • New Create-A-Sim (CAS) & Build/Buy Items
    • New Instruments: Functional Drum Set and Bass Guitar (essential for a rock band!).
    • Stage Gear: Amplifiers, microphones stands, professional stage lighting, fog machines, and an electric keyboard.
    • New Aesthetics: Rockstar hairstyles, band tees, ripped jeans, leather jackets, excessive tattoos, and bold makeup options.
    • Recording Studio Objects: A soundproof wall object, mixing boards, and a vocal booth.

    🎤 Band Management Mechanics
Form a Band: A new UI (similar to the Club UI in Get Together or the Band Panel from TS3) to create, name, and manage members.

    • Band Chemistry: A new metric that improves as the band practices together, influencing performance quality and dynamics.
    • Band Finances: The ability for the band to have shared finances and fame.
    • Band-Specific Gigs: A new type of event planning where you book gigs at bars, lounges, and a brand new "Concert Hall" venue lot.

    🥁 Tours, Recording, and Fame
Record an Album/EP: Use the recording studio objects to write, record, and produce music. Choose cover art, name the album, and license it for daily royalties that feed into the band's bank account.

    • Interactive Concerts: A new event type where the band gets on a stage and actually performs for an audience. The performance quality (skill, chemistry) dictates audience size, tips, and fame gain.
    • World Tour (Text Adventure): A vacation/travel system where the band goes on tour for several days. This could be a text-based adventure with choices that affect the band's money, fame, and chemistry.

Why this idea rocks (pun intended):

    • High Community Demand: This has been a top request for years.
    • Synergy: It integrates perfectly with Get Together (for practice sessions), City Living (singing skill/microphones), and Get Famous (celebrity status).
    • New Careers: It adds a highly engaging, active career path with unique challenges and rewards.

Thank you for your time and for reading the pitch! I, and many others, would love to see our Sims live out their rock star dreams!

    Hello EA/The Sims 4 team,

I am writing to ask you to add some more musical instruments to the game. I would be very happy if you could add: an oboe, a trumpet, a trombone, a double bass, a drums, a saxophone and, finally, a clarinet. I know there are many instruments, but they are the ones I would like to see on The Sims. Thank you very much for reading this message, and I hope my ideas have made you think about adding some new too.
