I'm Generation X too - hence the 1978 in my username. As much as I hate to admit it, we are getting close to this stuff.
Much of what you described for Gen X is actually what I attibute to either the Silent Gen or the the older Baby Boomers. Only ONE of my silent Gen grandparents just went into an assisted living home less than a year ago, at the age of 86. The other that is still alive lives independently at home. I expect to not go into that type of a place for another 50+ years. I am not a grandparent yet, my oldest child is age 22 and my youngest child is only age 12. It will be some time before I have an "empty nest.: I am only about a year younger than you, and I still say I honestly can not relate. I do not play the Sims for any realism, so my adult and elder sims act eactly the same as the young adult sims. I have made an old folks apartment complex, just to house some single elders, it is like a 55+ onlly allowed housing situation, not an old folks home. Btw, I have been playing the franchise since my early 20's, and can say I have NEVER played it for a realism aspect.
