Blast From the Past: Cannot Find Special Time Capsule in Inventory

I am currently working on the "Blast From the Past" challenge, and after digging up the special time capsule, I am unable to find it in my inventory to open it. When I click the mailbox to replace the time capsule, the option is greyed out with the note, "Sim already has this item."

Please help! Screenshots attached for reference. I don't use mods or CC and have already tried leaving the lot, restarting, and repairing the game.

It should be in your Sims inventory, not your household inventory. Did you check there too ?

Oh my goodness, thank you! I've been playing for years and had no idea they were separate things. One other question, do you know how to place an item from your inventory? The other items in my inventory have a "place in world" option but the time capsule does not. I have Googled but cannot find an answer. Thanks in advance!

I have figured it out, the "Open Capsule" does not show when the time is paused!
Problem solved.
