Re: Be Able To Play Sims 4 In the Future?
@potato_cween Sims 4 will likely still be in development, meaning new content will be produced, for at least another year or two. Then it will probably be another year beyond that before Sims 5 shows up, if it ever does.
But that's irrelevant. As long as you have a computer that can run Sims 4, you should be able to play. People still play Sims 3, and sometimes Sims 2; there are even a few who play the original Sims, albeit with some extra effort to make it work on modern computers. In theory, EA could make Sims 4 unavailable, but in practice, that's unlikely to happen. And even games that are no longer sold through Origin (e.g. Sims 2) are still downloadable and playable for the people who already own them.
As far as new technology goes, no one really knows how computers will develop past two or three years in the future. But the 64-bit version of Sims 4 should work in Windows for quite a while. The technology that makes it run is used in a wide variety of games, so even in the unlikely event that Microsoft decides to stop supporting the associated software, it's likely that other developers, or just amateur players with some coding skills, will find a way to make current games still work. It's more difficult to do so in macOS given how much less control people have over the hardware and software in their systems, but Macs should still be able to run the game for at least a few years past the end of development.
