Re: My sim uses the other side of the counter

@aodoherty, I'm happy that you got your Sims to use the proper side of the counters! πŸ™Œ This sounds like the issue with birthday cakes in how you can't light the candles unless the cake is placed perfectly on a counter or table.😞  I've actually had to buy a new table just to place the cake right in order to age up my Sims! πŸ˜ƒ  Sometimes the game can be very picky about the placement of objects. I still sometimes get a Sim who will go upstairs to use the bathroom counters to prepare food πŸ€’ seemingly for no reason! πŸ˜ƒ

Thanks for the pictures and for updating us!  Happy Simming! πŸ₯³

Hi A few days later, they started to use the wrong side again but not often like before. So now I'm ok with that. Thanks πŸ™‚

Yeah, so I don't place any counters or sinks in the bathroom in my households. LOL

@aodoherty, sorry they still sometimes use the wrong side, but at least is sounds more like a situational occurrence and not mandatory! πŸ˜‰

Also, someone just told me that it is the window above the counters in the Charm house that causes them to always go upstairs to the attic bathroom to prepare food!πŸ˜ƒ  So, I now have to move the window in all of my Saves that I play that house in! πŸ€¨

@PugLove888 Ahhhh alright. I wondered why I don't have your issue. Usually, I don't place windows above the counters. Thank you for sharing the good tip! :D

@aodoherty, I usually place a window in front of the kitchen sink. Some of the sinks fit into the counters. But I also often have windows above regular counters with no sinks in them and almost always never have problems.  However, since I did not build the Charm house (since it is a house that came with the ROM pack) I'm not sure why it causes problems.  It might have something to do with the fact that the walls on the lower level of the Charm house are taller than usual. πŸ€”  Or it could be the type of window they used. πŸ€”  Or it could even be a combination of things, depending how they built it! πŸ€¨  Anyway, in most cases you can put windows in the walls in front of counters. πŸ˜‰

You mention you don't have my problem.  Do you mean that the Charm family has no problem using the kitchen counters in their house , even if you don't change their kitchen at all? πŸ€”

@PugLove888 Oh sorry for finding your writings just now. In my case, as you can see the counters in my screenshots, I don't place any windows or decorations on the wall and that's why I haven't had your issue. You know the reward kitchen knife set from Culinary career, it can make sims feel making food or drinks or paint. Sometimes, it can block the sims' route too when it is placed above the counters or stove. So I usually, place this item on totally empty wall.

@aodoherty, thanks for clarifying! πŸ˜‡  So, you haven't had the problem of a window blocking access to the counters because you never place windows above counters in the houses you made -- I thought you meant that the kitchen counters in the Charm house that came with Realm of Magic didn't give you problems!  πŸ˜³ πŸ˜ƒ  Well, normally windows in front of / over counters don't cause problems in most houses, that is why I couldn't figure out why Sims wouldn't use those counters (until a friend pointed it out to me!) πŸ˜‰  For some reason the Charm house is different. πŸ€”

You can usually put windows above/in front of counters with no problems.  So don't be afraid to give it a try (and if it doesn't work, you can always remove that window! πŸ˜‰ )

Yes, the knife block and some other items set on the counters can prevent your Sims from using the counter that item is sitting on.  And sometimes wall decorations or shelves can cause problems too (so your practice of placing them on an empty wall is a good one! πŸ™Œ ) .  But most windows in most circumstances are safe to place in the wall in front of counters -- just not the one in the Charm house! πŸ€πŸ˜‰

    Happy Simming!πŸ₯³

@PugLove888Oh...sorry but I've never lived in Glimmerbrook. I even didn't know there was a charm house. Oh..the reason I don't put windows above the counter is because I don't like the small windows, that's all. haha.. I mostly like tall and wide windows and these windows look awkward with counters, that's why I usually don't place anything. Also I don't put any wall cabinets either with the same reason. πŸ™‚

Yes You're right, so I place only some paintings for wall decorations. Sometimes, sim cannot use a toilet from the wall cabinet above the toilet in the bathroom too. So my houses are simple and have nearly none decorations, so that my sims can move freely.

Thank you for the good tip. πŸ™‚ Happy Simming.

@aodohertythanks for the picture!  Your windows are magnificent! πŸ™Œ I can see why you wouldn't want to put counters in front of them.  This is a very good look for a modern style house!  I do like a lot of the smaller windows as well, but I also play a lot of traditional or antique style houses! β€οΈ  And many real life houses place a window above the kitchen sink so you can look outside while doing dishes. πŸ˜‰  But our Sims don't do that, and you have a way of decorating that works well for yourself! πŸ˜Ž

The Charm house is a house owned by the Charm family from ROM that is located in Glimmerbrook.  Both the house and the family were created by Maxis.  The family consists of a elderly Matriarch named Minerva Charm, and her two children (teen female and adult male) as well as her son's fiancΓ© who is just starting to learn Magic.  Their house is a 3 story house with the kitchen on the first floor , which  unless you move the window, they will go up to the bathroom on the 3rd floor to use the counters there. πŸ˜ž  I don't know if I have any pictures of their kitchen, but I find them I'll include them later.πŸ™‚

Also, if you want to ever download a house from the Gallery that is "play-tested" to avoid issues like counters being unable to be used because something is blocking it, then a good person to download houses from is @SheriGR ! (same name in the Gallery).πŸ™Œ  Also, look for anybody who says they play-test their houses! πŸ˜‡

@PugLove888 Oh sorry but I need to mention this. I didn't build this house. I downloaded it from Gallery too. :D I like modern houses, but after downloading it, I edited interiors of the house so that I can play easier in my way. Almost of the exterior is the same as the original builder designed.

ahhh yes I think I saw that family in gym some days. One of my other sims is a wizard too, but I only cared about the 3 teachers in magic land for learning new spells.

Thank you for the recommendation. I will have a look SheriGR later on. πŸ™‚
