I gave it one more shot before giving up. I ran another repair, went way back to a very early save, tested out romantic relationships, asked to just be friends, and it was all working like a charm. I tested Ubi first because he is the one that always seems to break first. Asked to just be friends, it was fine. Then he called my Sim up for a date and I thought, good idea. Test one more time. Their romantic bar is filling up pretty full, they are boyfriend and girlfriend, and their relationship status is showing "Just Friends."

I am completely out of ideas. I'll check in from time to time in case anyone else hits this bug and finds a solution for it. Otherwise, I really don't have a way to play Sims 4 with this bug reasserting itself repeatedly.

Thanks, all, for trying to share some tips and ideas. Man I wish something had worked.

Well, the MCCC mod would fix it in a second.

But, if you don't want to use mods and your commands aren't working for some reason, the ONLY way you'll remove the relationship would be to separate them.

Move the sims into separate households.
Modify each household in CAS and upload the individual sims to your library.
Delete BOTH households from your world.
Place both separate households from your library back into your world.

They will have no relationships at all. WITH ANYONE.

Unless you use a mod, this is the ONLY way.

Oh. Stop the train. 🙌 You must be scratching your head right now wondering if I could have been so obtuse, and let me answer, yes. I was and am completely obtuse. Please accept my apologies, and also let me thank you for having suggested something that you were quite sure would help. I have never used a mod, but that doesn't mean I refuse to. If there is a mod that would fix this, I'd be all over it like a cat on a tuna can.

    When I said,

    "I don't use mods."

I meant, 1.) I hit so many bugs so often, I am afraid mods would make it worse, but most importantly, 2.) I have zero experience using them. I don't know how to find them, how to install them if I did find them. All I know about mods is that people use them and so they exist. Other than that, I am a complete Sims4 mod noob. A game master walked me through downloading a mod on a private server in another game, but that is the extent of my experience.

    So when I said,

"I don't know what MCCC is, but I appreciate the helpful advice all the same."

I meant I literally had no idea what MCCC is an abbreviation for, if it is something I have to go get to change the way cheat codes work on my game or if it is a method for typing in cheat codes that I need to learn. I was reading Greek.

    :D :D

Ok, it sounds like I need to google *Sims 4 MCCC* and see if I can figure out how to download a file called MCCC? I assume there will be a Sims folder somewhere on the computer -- I think I can probably find it -- and hopefully there is a folder for "addons" or "mods" in there.

Again, I am so sorry, I didn't understand what you meant at all. Thanks for being so patient.

I am on MCCC Discord getting help to put the MCCC files in the right places. A person on support team asked what the bug is, so I sent a pic. Crossing fingers.

@CastleCatt Unfortunately that's the best I can do as we can't post links here. Just google what you suggested and it's at the top.

Your mods folder is in your sims data area, not the game folder. On most PCs it's in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods

Just create a folder in there like "MCCC" and unzip the file into there. That's it. If you've never used mods before, you'll have to enable them in Sims 4 settings Game Options\Other. There will be two. Enable CC and Script Mods.

MCCC is bug free. I've never heard of it causing any problems, ever.

Once it's loaded, just click on your sim, go into MC Command Center\Relationships\Delete Relationship. Then just click on the one you want to delete. All done.
  • They are telling me in their discord that this bug happens all the time and there is really no fix; it's just something people are having to learn to live with. Hopefully it will be fixed someday.

I seem to have downloaded and installed the MCCC correctly, I hope?

Thanks again, so much, for your time. I think I might really like some of its features even if it doesn't fix the bug. <3

  • I edited work around ideas into the original post to make it easier to find them if anyone else encounters this bug. MCCC is working like a charm for me. I am so relieved and excited. I have loved this game very much ever since trying Sims2. This bug really bummed me out when I couldn't figure out how to get rid of it. A work around makes me so happy. Thanks again, all.
