Adventure/Vacation pack idea

When hobbies/business pack was announced, I was initially very excited as I loved freetime and open for business sims 2 packs. I had been a little disappointed when I saw the only two hobbies we would receive would be pottery and tattooing. I loved sewing, building your own cars, and being able to partake in sports. While multiple hobbies similar to these have been incrementally incorporated throughout the sims 4 packs, I miss having a thorough, all encompassing pack to bring back not just a few nostalgic items and gameplay, but a whole host of them with some new types woven in. This led me to think about one of my favorite expansion pack themes that I miss most from sims 2 and 3, vacations and I'd be interested in hearing other players take away on my thoughts as well as their own ideas and hopes for future packs!

I would love to see a new expansion pack that brought back the official vacation option with better and more focused dynamics. While incorporating previous ep's destinations and activities, a new world or two could be introduced with all new gameplay to give players the chance to give their sims the adventure of a lifetime! Maybe it's a nightmare vacation where everything goes wrong, making them gain a trait of prefers to stay home, or have a life altering experience, gaining an expanded mind or adventurous trait. Players could schedule ahead increasing anticipation(or last minute which could negatively affect work), choose destination(certain locations providing different personality types different moodlets), time length (longer vacations giving better and longer lasting rewards), and goals between a several vacation types such as:

  • Honeymoon: romantic getaway or couple adventure subtype themes with different after effects. Maybe hates outdoors sims get disappointed by not taking it easy, loves outdoor/active feels like they missed out when on a romantic focused trip. Romance/family oriented sims could get dream honeymoon moodlet from a romantic getaway, while loves outdoors/active/adventurer could get it from the other. Elder couples could take a second honeymoon, with different outcomes based on whether the first had been a success or not.
  • Family trip: bring the grandparents along for a memory making vacation or have a family reunion trip that could bring about cool/embarrassing relative moodlet during certain gameplay. Maybe your sims' kids get memories of bonding with grandparents/sibilings/uncles/aunts or maybe they were a pain the whole time wishing they had gone somewhere else. Grandparents could get glad they're parenting days are behind them moodlets or proud of (grand)children moodlets. Additional moodlets like can't wait for next reunion, bonding with the fam, or let's stay home next year could affect sims upon their return.
  • Corporate retreat: have a work trip with coworkers! If certain goals are met you could gain an increase in performance or get a promotion. If you missed out on too much or brought the group down, face consequences back home with lowered performance, probation, or getting fired! Activities that can affect the trip's outcome could include bonding exercises like trust falls, hiking trips where you can encourage coworkers or laugh at those who fall behind, sharing circle, etc. for some of the cliche' options, while going out to dance or drink with coworkers could get crazy or perhaps very awkward (juice influenced coworker hookup anyone?).
  • Bucket list: Could be solo focused for a sim trying to overcome a midlife crisis(perhaps after divorce/breakup, family member death, loss of job, etc.), a young adult sim looking to see what's out there or have a destiny love at first sight moment, or older sims looking to get in a final adventure before their time is up to reaffirm life choices or wonder if they should have taken another path (maybe next life moodlet). This could add onto life and death pack gameplay.
  • Couples Retreat: Separate from honeymoon, this could allow couples to see if they're 'right' for each other. Maybe this trip will leave them questioning their compatibility or bring them to see their partner as 'the one'. For married couples this could provide them a needed getaway from the kids or work, or help them to repair(or worsen) a strained relationship.

With these vacation types available, a great deal of previous pack gameplay could be worked in, expanded, and improved upon. As for new gameplay that I would like to see included, here are just some of the ideas I've had running through my head.

A new world (or two!) dedicated to vacations. There could be an adventure focused world(bringing back quests) and a more laid back retreat type of world(or separate neighborhoods of one world). I personally would prefer two worlds as I miss World Adventures about the most out of any previous sims games and would love to see all of those worlds returned and possibly sectioned into different neighborhoods within the two worlds.

  1. The Egypt themed neighborhood could include old or new things like sims being able to go on camel rides, excavation excursions, visit markets with new vendors, and maybe even a river cruise down the Nile where your sim might need to solve a mysterious murder(this could be changed to theft of a ancient amulet or something if worried about changing game's maturity rating)! For players looking for new deaths, I could see getting kicked by a camel, fallen debris/stuck in tomb/or ancient curse for excavation excursions, or accidentally falling over river ship railing into gator infested water. I also loved.
  2. They could bring back China or a new Asian themed neighborhood (would love to see Korea) that could include new street markets and food stalls, trips to the historical district/mountain region with outdoors activities, or a visit to the bustling city to shop for trendy clothes and decor, eat at authentic restaurants, and experience new types of nightlife scenes.
  3. They could bring back France as part of the more laid back destination option with trips to vineyards brought back and expanded upon, visiting the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, or taking a romantic cruise down the Seine, going to a fashion show or high end charity gala.
  4. New world options I've thought about have included Australia for adventure with wildlife safaris(death by kangaroo kick anyone?), atv or dirt bike rides, ziplining, skydiving, paragliding/hang gliding, hiking, white water rafting, desert camping, and outdoor ocean activities could include surfing, windsurfing, kayaking, swimming with sharks(new death speaks for itself), glass bottom boating, snorkeling coral reef, etc. I like the idea of Italy or Greece for a laid back vacation spot, but as with potential adventure worlds/neighborhoods there are tons of options! If they included a new cold/snowy world, I would like to see snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ice fishing, and outdoor survival classes included.
  5. A kid/family themed spot or neighborhood. I liked the idea of a theme park that could be a combination neighborhood of an aquarium, zoo, rollercoaster park, etc. A water park would be incredible, but won't get my hopes up there. Hotels could vary in prices and themes with different dinner shows and entertainment (medieval, star wars, jungle, etc. themed). Parades and firework shows could close down the day/night with the little ones to excited to sleep that night or be cranky from it being well past their bedtime. Higher end hotels could have a spa to give breaks for the parents. Would love to see new pool options with some water slides, diving board, and swim up bars.
  6. For a more cost conservative vacation option, I would love to see there be a cruise ship option! Maybe it's a high end cruise that visits multiple destinations! It would be cool to see it stop at different locations to allow sims a limited time in a more expensive neighborhood/world or have its own destination spot with new outdoor activities or relaxing retreat options.
  7. I also love the idea of a cheesy dude ranch with trail rides, lasso and wrangling lessons, archery, skeet shooting, and nighttime campfire sing-a-longs. This could make for another less expensive vacation option.

I think it would be cool to see activities and experiences unique to each world or neighborhood while revamping some of the previous packs gameplay activities. Here are just a few things I had in mind:

  • More rental options to include hotels, bed and breakfast places, inns, villas, etc.
  • More outdoor activities brought to camping pack like hiking, ziplining, dirt bikes, birdwatching, survival classes, canoeing, arts and crafts activities like lanyards or dream catchers, etc. Could see this being a good location for business retreats.
  • I think it would be nice to see sims be more affected by their trips with lasting memories from big vacations. Trip dedicated photo albums could provide moodlets when viewed back home.
  • New aspirations, personality traits, skills, and careers. Would like to see a travel journalists and and travel agents could get discount vacation packages. Part time jobs could include travel guides and resort or cruise ship workers. Endless possibilities for the others.
  • Sims could get 'new direction' moodlets after particularly lifechanging adventures or 'feeling lost' after unfulfilling ones.

For sims who have gone on every type of vacation possible, they could gain the ultimate adventurer trait! With this they could get an adventure opportunity presented to them. Being acknowledged as a well seasoned adventurer, they are being asked to help save sims in another time and world. It would be cool to see them come back from a rabbit hole adventure having saved/doomed the galaxy/middle earth. Having saved it, they could come back with a specialized lightsaber and actual force wielding powers for the galaxy option, and a cart load of treasure and gold for middle earth. Having doomed it, negative moodlets, and recluse like behavior for failing galaxy, and the one ring to rule them all for middle earth. With this last one you could see your sim slowly turn into Smeagol or constantly fawn over your sim's 'precious'. Perhaps the random desire for raw fish? This one might not be fully thought out 😅

I would love to hear opinions and what other players would like to see brought back!
